A television cameraman films the wreckage of a North Huntingdon Township police cruiser that was hit by a train Monday evening.

A North Huntingdon Township police officer whose cruiser became immobilized on train tracks during a routine patrol was able to get out of the car before a CSX train batted it the distance of almost half a football field.

Thank goodness nobody was injured,
but Tom Ridge really needs to do something about those potholes.

North Huntingdon residents have been outspoken in their opposition to Maglev...
but with Maglev's elevated guideway, this accident would have never happened.

Tom Ridge really needs to do something about those potholes.

During the early 70s in Creighton (down by the PPG plant) there was a business owner who apparently thought he wasn't fairly compensated for some PennDOT/eminent domain taking.

He plastered "PennDOT STINKS" all across his storefront. It remained there for years. <|:)~ Maybe you saw it.

We had a retired train driver for a delivery guy at a company I used to work for. He and his trains had 18 kills and countless wounded. Not to mention all the "things" that he destroyed.

he's unsure how much of the car's equipment — lights, radio and camera — is salvageable.

TO be sure - the control-head cable1 running under the driver-side door's threshold trim is going to have to be replaced ...

Notes:

1) Assuming a configuration involving what Motorola calls a trunk-mounted radio is in use where the actual radio 'chassis' is mounted in the trunk and a 'control head' is mounted on the transmission hump inside the passenger compartment connected by a special multi-conductor cable.

It was rolling. It might not been turned on, though.

apparently, some of the asphalt near the tracks had deteriorated during the winter, making a crack in which the tires became lodged.

That's some big, bad cracks!

Maglev doesn't move freight!

Sure it can.

"However, the Transrapid is suitable for transporting goods as well. For high-speed cargo transport, special cargo sections can be combined with passenger sections or assembled to form dedicated cargo trains (payload up to 15 tons per section). As the propulsion system is in the guideway, neither the length of the vehicle nor the payload affect the acceleration power."

LOL!

FedEx has proven that "a few teeny parcels" is Big Business.
Bulk commodities such as coal, steel, autos, sand, gravel, grain, etc. don't require overnight delivery.

This winter quite a few communities could have used overnight salt deliveries.

Well, at 15 tons per section, I suppose Maglev could've delivered quite a few pallets of 50 lb. sacks if absolutely necessary. The elevated guideway is, afterall, situated well above any drifting snow. And what little may try to accumulate on the guideway itself is pretty much just blown away by the wind and passing Maglev trains. It really is considerably more reliable under inclement weather conditions than air, highway or conventional rail travel.
