Molly Bingham safe, out of Iraq [Newsday journalists confirm torture tales]
Louisville Courier Journal ^ | 4/2/03 | Mark Coomes

[snip]They said they often heard the screams of other prisoners being tortured and saw some with their eyes and faces bloodied and swollen.

''There were beatings and torture going on outside our cells, in the corridor, literally,'' McAllester said. Other inmates hobbled around, apparently because the soles of their feet had been burned or otherwise injured.

I saw a brief video clip of the released journalists, and when one was asked if they'd been treated badly, he said no, but "the rest sure as hell were"... the guy was visibly upset and angry.

How is this "Breaking"? We saw this story yesterday, including the info from the Danish guy about the torture.

I saw the face of the Dutch cameraman... surrounded by cameras in the hotel, he gave a hint as to what he saw. His hand was oscillating fiercely and he was dragging hard on his cigarette. He said that while the four journalists were 'uncomfortable', they were treated worlds better than anyone else in the prison. As he said that, I could see a spasm in his eyes - that he was a very recent witness to torture so brutal that merely to witness it was a scarring experience.

That's the clip I saw! I couldn't remember his exact words, except for the "sure as hell" part. He was very visibly angry and shaken.

You didn't see this story from this source yesterday, because it came out this morning.

Yeah, that was what struck me about there being more to it.

I happen to catch this "story" on CBS this morning; Diane Sawyer actually asked Bingham's cousin if she was kidnapped because of her work for Al Gore.

We moved this story to breaking news since other news sources are refusing to report this story accurately.

The "Big Three" are overloaded with twits these days.

One of the stupid "reporters" asking questions of Bingham after she spoke actually asked her if the Iraqis weren't too busy fighting to be torturing people. Bingham repeated what she said about hearing the screams and moans.

Since two heavy divisions are down now, we'll hear more of these stories.

If you don't mind my asking, what part was not being portrayed accurately?

The torture?

I can't imagine sitting through something like that - powerless to stop it.

I'm reminded of the last days of the Third Reich.

Here's a big difference: This "Reich" has been ongoing for over thirty years.

Thank God these reporters were witnesses to the torture. Hopefully they will be able to convince more people of the horrors of the Iraqi regime. I'm glad they got out safely and the marines are on their way to the prison right now to get the rest. It was interesting to see the reporters reactions to the numberous questions they were hit with when they opened the car doors. I wonder if any of the four are guilty of using this tactic when they conducted interviews in the past. Doesn't seem like they enjoyed it at all.
