I think you're right.

A President who cares and shows visible signs of the strain his decision to send our men and women into harm's way is causing, as opposed to one who was getting blowjob while discussing troop deployments in Bosnia with the theatre commander?

I'll take it.

One Bush in the White House is worth a million Clintons with their pants around their ankles.

So, you're not put off by him or his faith in the least. Good. I should not have been so sweeping in my use of the word 'none', I suppose. My apologies.

But you kinda prove my point, too.

As to you thinking I sound a bit arrogant? I'm sorry to hear that. I'm just stating my opinion.

I agree with you EV. I read the article and thought it was pretty reasonable. The only thing that made me cringe was the quote from Evans about a mandate from God. I'm fairly religious but I don't care for that kind of talk or thinking from a president. However, Bush has always said that he believes things happen for a reason so I prefer to think of it that way rather than a mandate from God. Other than that, though, I found the article to be pretty positive and what I would expect from the CIC in times of war.

He's got the weight of the world on his shoulders so of course he is going to show signs of strain. If this means he jokes less than usual, so be it. He is obviously a man who is aware of the gravity of the situation and he is ultimately the one who is responsible for the troops. He sent them into battle, he's bound to worry about them. I'm grateful that he is interested in the war progress and the fate of our troops.

I don't think there is much in here about legacy building, per se. The article mentions the fact that there is no stenographer, nothing is taped, etc. Doesn't sound to me like a man obsessed with legacy building.

All in all my impression is of a man with an incredibly difficult job who is managing it and handling it. God bless him.

If you notice, the comment about President Bush being called by God is not in quotes by Don Evans, as are his other remarks. I'm not sure Don said this. I have seen liberal writers make this claim and it is regarding as truth in RAT circles. I think the writer took it upon herself to ascribe this to Evans. Just my thoughts on it.

God bless President Bush. Prayers that God keeps him strong.

Two thoughts as I read this: 1) It all sounds like a damned good serious president in charge. 2) Can't even imagine Clinton handling this.

Good point. Perhaps a bit of editorializing there eh? I was surprised when I read it because it didn't sound like something Evans would say.

No. I agree with your assessment. Certainly, there are single phrases or sentences that WILL be taken out of context and twisted. But, on the whole, I believe, it brings a touch of honesty and humanity to the masses that most of us here have recognized a long time ago.

It really doesn't. Frankly, its not his style to say much of anything to the press.

Indeed.

The President has never ever said this nor do I believe it to be what he believes. He is doing his job and looks to the Lord for wisdom, clarity and guidance. The lib writers distort everything and since this remark supposedly by Evans is not in quotes, I don't believe he said it.
