I think it must be a major objective to keep the RG from retreating back into BAG. We could probably do it with air. But this move by the 1st MEF makes me wonder if they're not going to move in for a pincer move as the 3rd ID moves up from the SW. Methinks those RG guys are sitting ducks.

Absolutely it's a big objective, we sure don't want to have to hunt them down in buildings in a city that size. They will cut them off from the air if they try to retreat into the city. WE own the air now!

I have maintained to everyone who would listen at my rantings and ravings that THE objective of this plan was to trap the RG outside of Baghdad insofar as possible. THAT one thing determined our blitzkrieg north to draw within engagement range of them. Yes, we can and have engaged them from air, but our forces staring them right in the puss really has pinned them down in a way air power alone is incapable of doing.
The other forces now moving around Baghdad will serve as the force to dispatch them, but the initial contact by the 3rdID was key to the whole operation.
