Rent-a-martyr, eh? Saddam is (or hopefully was) a depraved madman, and his regime must fall.

Guarantee this is how it went down: ghoul from Iraqi army takes the whole boatload of people hostage, forces them into the van, and drives it right through the checkpoint suicide-style. They know that by the time we discover this fact the psychological damage will be done.

It was pretty obvious the women in the van weren't volunteers. I wonder if they even knew, or if only the driver did.

According to whom?
To: brigette
That's exactly what I speculated had happened. If the Iraqi regime is not evil, nothing is.

Its a shame. But as long as they do this, they will have to die. Sad truth, but war sucks.

What?
Saddam's glorious regime would never harm innocent Muslim civilians like the evil US/UK armies of occupation. /Arabic

Gee I can't wait to hear Peter Jennings lead with this story.. Just kidding.

Why am I not surprised. Poor women and children knew they were going to be killed either way! Freakin Saddam and his henchmen! If I could kill him myself I would!

I thought so as well - no other reason for the women to have not stopped for the soldiers.

"What was Fox's source? Unnamed Pentagon sources? British Intelligence? Debka? " Perhaps it is Whore-Aldo (the media Whore) Rivera. He opened the hidden vault of Hammirabi and found the evidence.

Keep this thread updated, I am curious as to the source of this information. I mean, the first suicide bomber can't be asked. Maybe somebody in the van that got shot up has spoken up..

They had a Cleric Shitte (sp?) on video speaking about it. He explained that the family of the man including his infant child were threatened with death if he did not do it and the money paid out was hush money for the family. The van was ordered to run through the check point and not to stop or family members would be killed.

To: brigette
This is just horrible stuff. A regime -- supported at the least by tens of thousands of true believers -- that would stuff women and children into a suicide van.
The turly outrageous thing is that so much of the rest of the world sees the coalition as morally equivalent to Saddam. Or even worse.

Hmmmm, well Faux has hardly been a paragon of journalistic integrity in this conflict.
While their reporting has a conservative angle that I find refreshing after the liberal tripe purveyed by CNN and MSNBC, they also have been probably the most egregious reporters of rumor-as-fact-later-debunked in national broadcasting since this conflict began.
