What we really need is a 'Canadian Friends of Canada'
National Post ^ | Monday, March 31, 2003 | Mark Steyn

What's the latest from the Canadian people's heroic war with the Great Satan? After a week of sniping, random potshots and suicide bombs from Chrétien fedayeen dispersed through strategically unimportant Canadian cities, one member of the ruthless ruling elite is showing signs of impatience with our long-time strongman: "I don't think things will change until our leadership changes," says David Pratt, Liberal chairman of the House of Commons Defence Committee.

(Snip) Meanwhile, I find myself in the unprecedented position of being temporarily the least immoderate adult in my household. My wife, who was born in England, says she's ashamed to be Canadian and wants to renounce her citizenship. She only became a citizen five months ago, so that'd rank as the fastest turnaround on record. The missus took her oath of allegiance to the Queen (of Canada) mainly out of spousal solidarity, and she feels suckered -- like when you sign one of those petitions in the mall without really looking at it and you're in the paper next day calling for the age of consent to be lowered to seven.

There's something more than faintly repulsive about the way the world's self-proclaimed "moralists" -- Canucks, French and Germans -- are all but begging Saddam to unleash weapons of mass destruction on allied forces and/or Iraqi civilians just so they can de-hoist themselves from their own petard. Incidentally, if executing POWs, firing on one's own civilians and using women and children as human shields isn't enough to get the moral preeners on side, what's the big deal about going chemical?

That just about says it all, doesn't it? I just LOVE Steyn!

Maybe something good will come of this...maybe there will be a conservative elected to lead whatever they call their form of government.

LOL! I just read that on another thread.

RC Cola rules, by the way. ESPECIALLY with a bag of peanuts.
