I hope it's true. We know there were earlier news articles that the Marines were hunting him. He was a very important target, hope we got him. From earlier news reports:
http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_766088.html?menu=news.wariniraq
US marines target 'Chemical Ali'
US Marines have targeted Saddam Hussein's notorious henchman Chemical Ali in a raid using precision-guided bombs, tanks and helicopter gunships.
They launched a raid on Shatra, a town just north of Nassiriya, and their targets included Ali Hassan al-Majid, a cousin of the Iraqi leader.
Al-Majid, known as Chemical Ali, was responsible for using chemical weapons against Kurds in Iraq in 1988 and remains one of Saddam's most trusted and feared aides.
He was believed to be heavily involved in organising the current paramilitary resistance to coalition forces.
The US Marines struck in Shatra at dawn after tip-offs that Al-Majid and other senior Baath Party members were there.
They were believed to be organising raids on US supply lines.
The Marines who carried out the raid had been heading north for Baghdad but turned round to focus on Shatra to help secure the supply lines, military sources said.
Reuters reporter Sean Maguire, embedded with the US Marines, said precision bombs hit four targets in Shatra before tanks, armoured personnel carriers and helicopter gunships firing machine guns moved in.

Re #1
We will see. It is about time that one of these guys turns up dead.
To: FairOpinion
Is Targetedattack closer to Tikrit or to Baghdad?
To: FairOpinion
This guy is like a cockroach....
We keep killing him and he pops up alive somewhere else....
He's died in the bunker the first night, Basra the first week, a Bagdad raid and in the field a few days ago.....
Now this report....
Hope our Marines got him this time for good....

Because of DEBKAfile's repeated lack of credibility, it is best to put the word "DEBKA" into the headline, so people know it's just a rumor and not an actual fact.
That having been said, other news reports were about this attack on Ali, so the rumor just might be true. That doesn't change the fact that DEBKA probably just saw news about an attack on Chemical Ali and decided to dress it up as an inside scoop about his demise.

If we are going after "convoys", I'd just as soon see us do damage on ALL roads leading from Jordan and Syria into Iraq...... *nods*

Any report from DEBKA, Reuters, AFP, any Russian Mafia/KGB news agency and most out of India need to be placed in a new section, Breaking Wind with the following warning.
More than likely this is not true nor will it ever be documented. This thread has been posted to confuse and depress those who like to be confused and depressed. Or it has been posted for those who believe in the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny news stories.

Actually a lot of other news sources were reporting that the Marines are looking for and are targeting Ali.
But Debka is the first or only I have seen that reported that they got him. Interesting that Debka was citing "US intelligence sources" for the news.
In the fog of war it may or may not be true, but I hope it is, Chemical Ali apparently is playing a major role in organizing the current terrorist attacks against our troops, not to mention his past crimes.

To depress?
Finding out that Chemical Ali is dead depresses you?
I did put a question mark in the title, to indicate that there is some question about the reliability of the information, but, if confirmed, it's big news.

Finding out that Chemical Ali is dead depresses you?No. The depression comes when you find out Debka is just a couple pimply Haifa college guys with an old PC & a server account..

I have the same problem. The headlines don't show up in preview.
Still, it's fun to take the cheap shot.

No, what gets my goat are the BS threads posted on the extremes of both sides. Debka is the extreme on one side and Reuters/AFP is the extreme on the other side without a specific warning saying beware of the source!
The documented death of Soddamned, his sons, Chemical Aly or any of the Iraqi killer thugs would be good news.
As of now we have no documentation of the death of any top Iraqi killer/thug. Just like there is no documentation that there is, was or will be a stand down.

FR should ban posts from Debka. What a waste of time they are, time after time.
Nothing from DEBKA should ever be in Breaking News. I hate clicking an article and waiting for it to load and then finding out it's DEBKA fluff which is nothing but a tabloid mill posing as a news site.
