The story the press is pushing now is just a variation on the "right wing conspiracy" line. Americans are not spontaneously rising up in support of the troops, they are being brainwashed and ordered to attend rallies by that juggernaut of right wing hysteria, Clear Channel. Nevermind the evidence that the leftist rallies are paid for by international communist organizations, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
I tried to make it clear that the Free Republic Network was claiming credit for these rallies. I stressed that they were organized and conducted by individual chapters, as well as many other groups from our partners and others, and that all we did was put the "coalition" together and issue a call to action for "LIbert Weekend" and provide information and tools for people new to this kind of activism.
I constantly stressed that FR and the FRN are not part of some GOP controlled organization, that we are independant, grass roots conservative activists. Considering the treatment we have received from the press in the past, I think this columnist made a fair attempt at getting the story straight.

I always put FreeRepublic on my signs though. I'm too busy recording the events to wave a sign. And some the "FR" on my "Support Our troops" button never gets noticed... *\;-)
