Geraldo is pissed. He is on Bill O'Reilly's radio show and just said he expects retractions from MSNBC and Jeff Greenfield of CNN or he will hit them with $30,000,000 law suits.

If Geraldo did indeed compromise the operational security of the 101st he should be removed IMO, but if the powers that be at CENTCOM and 101st have not ordered him out then MSNBC and CNN should not be reporting otherwise.

I would be prone to accept it is a HOAX except for this line in the press release..

Defense Department spokesman Bryan Whitman later told Reuters, however, that Fox News itself had agreed to remove Rivera after the military commander where Rivera was reporting felt that he had "compromised operational security."
A Fox spokesman said: "All I can tell you is that he's still reporting from Iraq."

It sounds like something is up..If Geraldo turns up out of Iraq we will know that we know..In spite of the spin.

If he stays there we will know it was a lie

I have no feeling about Jeraldo except perhaps suspicion about any of his stands.

On the other hand Fox needs all the personnel it can keep on site when the other giants are trying so hard to wipe them out. I think they would want him out more than any other people.

Wouldn't it be a crock if the military used his broadcast to plant erroneous information (i.e.disinformation) out there to confuse or confound?

And all this serve to make the information more credible, believable and valuable if it had been genuine information, therefore a detrimental move long term for the military?

Can anyone identify why Special Ops Forces would have a past grievance with Arnett? The "wisp" I heard intimated that those forces might be "unhappy" about some way in which he "finked or dissed" them either in Gulf War or Nam.

Speculation was with Bagdad Arnett running around "free" in the city in which SpecOps has a peculiar interest these days....whose interest would prevail.

I think Geraldo has a pretty big ego and sometimes thinks the rules don't apply to him. Broadcasting your position doesn't seem to be a smart thing to do. Of course, as has been suggested, that this was "disinformation" well, that's a different subject.

From now on, if I were Geraldo, I'd say my location with the 101st was "ten miles from nowhere."

Discussed on FOX yesterday that he accused SO of using serin gas in Laos. This lady said these guys would be all over Arnett if they got close enough.

brit hume, just now, said that rivera is "under pentagon investigation." hume acknowledged that cnn and msnbc had said rivera had been ordered out of iraq, but as of tonight he is with the 101st, and "his next assignment has not been determined."

of course, i guess brit hume could be out to get him, too.

When Fox first announced that they had hired Geraldo I went through the "I'll never watch him" syndrome too. And frankly, I will never forget him defending Clinton the way he did. However, I must say, I really enjoy his reporting from the battle zones and his is supporting the troops 100%. Right now that outweighs anything he has done in the past.

Just as I was typing this Fox had a story about this situation and said Geraldo is under investigation for drawing a map in the sand and his next assignment is not clear at this point. So who know how this will end up.

Brit Hume just said that Geraldo is under investigation, and that no determination has been reached yet. It's supposedly about that map he drew in the sand, show how the troops went through Basra, Nasyria, and then Karballa (like no one knew that) And a line to behind these to show the supply line, protected. No one knew that either! I guess people figured the supply line ran through areas that weren't secured.

I think they'll probably find that he didn't reveal anything that the talking heads with their detailed maps haven't shown. jmo

the rules are that if reporters are to receive assistance or protection from the allied military, they are supposed to do no map or map-like stuff from the field. none. in addition, geraldo described how they were going to approach the town, who would be approaching, the units they expected to encounter, and when they would do it. all based on information he had received from the commander at the scene, not retired general speculation in new york. so while i expect geraldo will be given an opportunity to retreat gracefully, retreat he will if he expects cooperation from our guys, at all, ever again.

and it probably took a lot of negotiation to get him even that.

what i find interesting is the outraged, inflamed, accusatory tone geraldo took this morning, labeling it all "a pack of lies," when in fact it appears to have been substantially true.

Then it seems that the person in charge, right there where Geraldo IS, should have put a stop to what he was doing when he first attempted to draw a map and talk.

BUT THE PERSON DIDN'T. Must be they didn't think it was of much concern at the time. Someone made a stink about it, but it seems like it wasn't the person that was there with him at the time. Hmmmmmm.
