IRAQI TV HOST: Welcome in Baghdad, and our people know you, know your reports to CNN in 1991. Let us start with a question about the general image that you look now in Iraq.
ARNETT: Well, I'd like to say from the beginning that the 12 years I've been coming here, I've met unfailing courtesy and cooperation. Courtesy from your people, and cooperation from the Ministry of Information, which has allowed me and many other reporters to cover 12 whole years since the Gulf War with a degree of freedom which we appreciate. And that is continuing today.

Thankfully, this is now for archival purposes only! Bye bye, Baghdad Peter!

Lucianne.com just put up the headline that Pete Arnett has been fired by MSNBC. How many networks can you be fired from before you're considered unreliable?

Heh. Someone at CNN holds a grudge.
Couldn't happen to a better "reporter".

Seeing the transcript in its intirety sure does highlight just how treasonous his remarks were.

Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. Firing him is not enough. He needs to be arrested and tried for treason. If I were him, I'd stay in Baghdad and work for the Iraqi Information Ministry and then die with "honor" when the regime falls. I don't think he'll be welcome anywhere else.

This treasonous moron shouldn't ever be allowed to set foot on American soil again, except to walk to a gallows.

If Arnett got fired for this, Jennings should have been long gone. I don't see the difference.

Will the French Ministry of Information be hiring Arnett very soon?
He could be a useful tool to them, just like he was for the Iraqis.

(Arnett had the word SUCKER pasted on his big forehead ... and the Iraqis knew how to use him.)

If this doesn't meet the "aid-and-comfort-to-your-enemy" test, nothing will.

You know, I started to copy and paste the first comment made by Arnett. Then I kept reading and Wow! I can't believe he let his guard down like this.
The way everybody on the other threads were talking, I thought maybe he made one minor comment that could be taken out of context. But then I read this and my God what sick pig.
If they can take that American Taliban person to jail for fighting with the Taliban then Arnett should be charged and tried too!!! Doesn't this ba$tard know what this kind of stuff can do to the morale of the troops! The idiot's comments may give the Iraqis the thought that their tactics are winning and thus, it can prolong the war for Christ sakes! Therefore he is risking the American and British (and those embedded Canadian troops) lives! I just can't believe that someone could be so sick as to say stuff like this especially when they have a "duty" to be independent.
The stupid thing is that the press will focus on this more than the actual war where we have been making tremendous progress over the last 48 hours.

Not welcome in the main-line US press? If so it is only because he talked too much; giving away the battle plan of the media eletes!

I heard on the radio this morning that he said he was going to look for an island or something to that effect. As for as I'm concerned he can stay right where he is in Baghdad
