Can you block the IPs of the anonymizer sites?

I know you know, I'm just curious (and hopeful).

We require a unique e-mail address per account. However, that is only to discourage abuse, to make it a little harder for the disruptor. It takes about five minutes to create a new e-mail identity if you know where to go.

As for the DUsrupters, I honestly don't know. In general, without respect to any particular place of origin, I think maybe several each day are banned just by the auto-ban filter alone. Then maybe that many again are spotted and put down by hand.

It's a foreign based web site, servers outside of the jurisdiction of the USA. So does hacking it, DDOSsing it, whatever, come under US "computer crime" law? I am not suggesting anything, just curious.

Yes, I've looked into that already. If need be, I could do the deed with a few keystrokes.

As for the reference, I'm not sure if that attack (which was supposed to happen this weekend) ever came to fruition. I certainly didn't know about it, but then again, I've been a) sick with a nasty head cold-- didn't even want to look at my computer screen until today b) had no electricity from 7am to 5pm. I completely missed spending the weekend in front of the computer.. aw shucks.

An auto-ban filter? Cool. Does it also send an angry letter to their email? (It should)

There is a slew of this garbage on IM's, and from what I've keyed in on (of what I've read), all authored by the same person, penned under a multitude of differing psuedonyms when not "anonymous."

And they would come here and do it to us. It's senseless and has no merit, it wins nothing but immediate gratification for those involved. Please don't do that.

We all need to remember that the purpose of FR is to discuss issues that support the Constitution. With back and forth attempts by both sides to silence the other, we all lose our right to freedom of speech. Besides making your job of maintaining the site impossible, it hinders our opportunity to rationally discuss issues.

The argument used here against things like the "Freedom Act" is "what if someone like Hillary gets in power..." It applies here. Both sides need to recognize there a valid arguments on both sides of the issue, and we all benefit if they are freely expressed.

Web attack on the Whitehouse
by nobody in particular 10:05am Fri Mar 21 '03 (Modified on 12:19am Mon Mar 24 '03)

Help bring down the Whitehouse website this weekend
Download attached file: XXXXXXXXXXX

While you're out protesting, your computer is sitting on its fat arse doing nothing against the war.
Not anymore :-)
Attached is a zip file containing a webpage which attempts to shutdown the Whitehouse website.
Real simple to use, just unzip, open and click GO.
Piece of piss!

It will then open 12 smaller window each containing a page from the whitehouse website. It will cycle through the pages and ovrrload their server. If enough of us do this it will SHUTDOWN THE WHITEHOUSE !

TELL EVERYONE ON YOUR EMAIL LIST TO DOWNLOAD IT AND RUN IT ALL WEEKEND.

Even the Argentinian's do it: http://www.ondara.com/guerrano/ (En Castellano)

Another IndyMedia:

http://alberta.indymedia.org/news/2003/03/6306_comment.php

Click on the link listed below, and LEAVE YOUR WINDOW OPEN ALL DAY. The page will automatically reload every 10 secs, thereby overwhelming their site and hopefully shutting it down if enough people participate. You can continue browsing on line, but leave the CNN window open. Spread the word.
(Emphasis mine.)

There are liberal sites out there upset that they weren't attacked. Hurts their self esteem.

By the way, I believe the campaign in #36 was named "CNN Strike." It got the website shutdown. Three more sprung up in its place.
