That's a false dichotomy.
No doubt the media are going to look really stupid with their "Vietnam" and "quagmire" nonsense. However, just because we're going to win doesn't mean Rumsfeld did everything right. Ralph Peters, for example, has been scathing in his criticism of Rumsfeld's military planning (though not his leadership), but has no doubt that we'll win the war.
Oh, no doubt about that, the best laid plans and all. But I do think the media tends to exaggerate things, and in this case, it is rather extreme. It could very well be A) and Rummy has screwed up, and we would still win. But there seems to be such a disconnect between what the Pentagon says, and what the media says at the moment, I think, even if we win, someone will have egg on their faces. Even though that dichotomy may not actually be in play, public perception I think is going to be thus.
