We now interrupt this war, whisking you with a nostalgic look back at that 60's melody:

(Music interlude....)

To everything there is a season,
Turn, turn, turn.
A time to make omelettes,
A time to break eggs....
A time to bring eggs bring togeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeether.
....

I think prairiegirl brought up NOW's racism.

NOW lacks common sense - a basic understanding of human nature. They believe the world would be peaceful and loving with women in charge...someone like Hillary Clinton, or Katie Couric or Stephanie Tubbs Jones or Media Benjamin. Little girls can be very cruel, as every honest woman knows.

The trick to flipping an omelot is to do it over the sink. If you cook one egg, break the yoke and let it harden. Then flip it repeatedly over the singtaking away you worries of dropping it on the stove.

By the way I am the only one in the house who ever tried and learned how to do it easily.

For those who would like a war break, a "Wings" marathon began 1/2 hr. ago on Nickelodeon.

Ok, Im 17, shows that were on original run in MY lifetime do not count as "classic TV", remember when Nick At Nite had OLD shows, like Leave it To Beaver and I Love Lucy

Interesting way of cooking an omelet. I can safely assume that your family is rather skinny? LOL

165 years ago, Alexis de Tocqueville explained why Iraq didn't crumble immediately:
A great aristocratic people cannot either conquer its neighbors, or be conquered by them, without great difficulty. It cannot conquer them, because all its forces can never be collected and held together for a considerable period: it cannot be conquered, because an enemy meets at every step small centres of resistance by which invasion is arrested. War against an aristocracy may be compared to war in a mountainous country; the defeated party has constant opportunities of rallying its forces to make a stand in a new position.
OTOH, he also explained why we will win:
When a war has at length, by its long continuance, roused the whole community from their peaceful occupations and ruined their minor undertakings, the same passions which made them attach so much importance to the maintenance of peace will be turned to arms. War, after it has destroyed all modes of speculation, becomes itself the great and sole speculation, to which all the ardent and ambitious desires which equality engenders are exclusively directed. Hence it is that the selfsame democratic nations which are so reluctant to engage in hostilities, sometimes perform prodigious achievements when once they have taken the field.

----

I am therefore of opinion that, when a democratic people engages in a war after a long peace, it incurs much more risk of defeat than any other nation; but it ought not easily to be cast down by its reverses, for the chances of success for such an army are increased by the duration of the war. When a war has at length, by its long continuance, roused the whole community from their peaceful occupations and ruined their minor undertakings, the same passions which made them attach so much importance to the maintenance of peace will be turned to arms.

He was referring to a democratic nation being invaded, but the same applies to our invasion of Iraq, since it is a defensive, not an aggressive war.

This war is an extension of Sept. 11, so it applies even more surely. They didn't knock us out that day. That was their only hope. We win.

We could.

But I'm not really sure we'd want to (But, remember, I'm Navy ex-submariner - so I don't all the ins-and-out of Army field ops.) ....

I'd figure they'ed want a "rookie" force, new in country, facing new terrorism-type threats after several weeks/months at home and in other bases, to get acclimated in the same place first.

Our guys are tired in the field, sure.

But in Guadalcanal - The Marines fought for months with no relief. We'll manage for a few days - Command-n-control isn't something you want to mix-n-match ever. Cl;assically, from Napolean, heck - from the Romans and Greeks times - the best place to attack an enemy is BETWEEN two forces - because that's where he's weakest. It's worse between two allied armies, even worse between two nations fighting in the same area - but even between two divisions there exists a "joint" that hard to cover efectively.

So if we keep our troops together - and stay patient to wait for them to accumulate their own units, they'll be stronger rather than mixing up units

That's what I was thinking. Unit cohesion is as important and these guys have nicknames going all the way down to a single tank unit sometimes.
