Lord rest their souls and those of their families.
If it happened a few minutes ago Ollie shouldn't be reporting it.

If it happened a few minutes ago Ollie shouldn't be reporting it.Just curious: Why not? He had just given a regular update to the Fox anchors, then they broke in so he could come back on and tell about the crash. He said it just happened.

Appears to be an accident. Night time flights in the dusty desert, one of the most dangerous thing one can do in a helicopter.

I heard the report, but I didn't hear him say what caused the crash. I don't think he said.

Was it shot down?Sorry, Fox hasn't said, and Ollie didn't say either. In his earlier report (just a few minutes prior), he didn't mention they were under fire.

"all the news UNFIT to Hear" ABC News Radio has been happily proclaiming the "FEAR that we have more dead".
another "reporter" supposedly from Iraq said that a Marine Colonel told him "I fear for the lives of the crew."
I'm sorry, but WHO the hell besides a reporter talks like that? Especially a Marine Corps Colonel in a battle zone.
I'm just getting tired of all this crap from every cornier INSIDE the United States.

Well, I thought the more care was going to be taken to not report deaths from the field, and let the Pentagon handle that. I know families worry anyway at the news that a helo is down, but to report deaths before the families are notified panics the families of the whole unit.

I agree. As a mother of two college aged sons, I cannot imagine the fear of hearing that breaking news--it should be handled in the same manner as the other "top secret" information that the journalists are privey to.

I cannot imagine the fear of hearing that breaking news--it should be handled in the same manner as the other "top secret" information that the journalists are privey to. I respectfully disagree. I believe embedded reporters should be able to responsibly report breaking news without giving names, other identifying information or showing the pictures. There's a difference between reporting what's happened versus a loved one back home seeing or hearing specific bad news via the media. Embedded reporters should be censored regarding intelligence or strategic information that might be helpful to the enemy.

Yes; and they are FRENCH hiding places at that! (humor)

How did it go down? Was it shot down? Col. North said the crash occurred at a forward operating base - probably not during a battle.

It's a tough call and it's only my opinion. I have two sons in the Marines (one currently in Iraq) and I think I'd rather start hearing about this kind of news to prepare myself than to suddenly get a knock on the door.
