On 3/26/03, I attended a "Support Our Troops" rally. The rally was at the Lindenhurst Town Hall on Long Island. As I was driving to the rally, traffic was completely stopped on Sunrise Highway (AKA POW-MIA Memorial Highway).
I thought for sure there was a bad accident up ahead. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. The traffic jam was due to all the patriots trying to get to the rally.
There was a Veteran walking towards the rally, he had on a leather vest and on the back of the vest was written "Vietnam Veteran, US Army". He was walking, holding his flag looking very proud and determined. I asked him where he thought I should park, I parked where he suggested, a couple of blocks away from Town Hall. I thanked him for serving our great country, he said "no problem" :-)
Met up with my friends, we were so excited about attending the rally all day. In the spirit of Free Republic, I made a couple of signs and brought a flag. I gave the flag to a young man there and he was very grateful. He is in one of the photos I am posting. My friends children loved the signs and wanted to hold them. The news crew was there, and the young ones were hoping to be captured on film. They were so cute. There were a lot of folks there. Many Veterans. Patriotic songs were sung. The crowd chanted "USA USA" over and over again. A moment of silence for our troops. Tears were shed.
We all had two things in common, we were there to support our troops, and we all love our country.
It was a great evening, so happy to see so many patriots there. Just wanted to let you all know we support our troops here on Long Island. I took a few photos, hope you enjoy.

"Babylon Town Hall in Lindenhurst."
Lindenhurst was the home of The American Nazi Bund before and during WWII. Babylon is Babylon, not part of Lindenhurst at all.

Your comment was rude and uncalled for.
Babylon Town Hall, 200 E. Sunrise Highway, N. Lindenhurst, NY

Have a good day

Thank you, Deadhead!! For showing your support and for the ping.
The pictures are precious. Knowing that Americans across our great nation are showing their support for our troops and our President makes me feel good about our country and her future.
Thank you again.

I taught in Lindenhurst many years ago. Many of those kids and young adults could be the offspring of my former students.
