GULF WAR II: Poll shows the British public are steeled for a long fight
THE British public overwhelmingly back the wardespite fears that it could take months, not days, to depose Saddam Hussein.
A massive 84 per cent believe Britain and America should see the war through to a successful conclusiona rise of two per cent in a week.
Just 11 per cent think the coalition should now stop fighting and pull out. The figures are revealed in a News of the World ICM poll taken last night, well after US commanders confirmed the war will take months to complete.
They show the population at home are now steeled to expect a long campaign.
As for tactics, the majority57 per centsupport the current strategy of limited surgical strikes designed to minimise civilian casualties.
Only 12 per cent believe the Allies should adopt a slower "wait and see" policylaying siege to major cities hoping for the Iraqis to surrender.
Prime Minister Tony Blair is still enjoying the support of 50 per cent of the country with just 39 per cent disputing his stance.
And the people delivered a humiliating blow to newspapers and TV channels which have been critical of the course the war has taken. Most of those quizzed58 per centsay the British media has a duty to support our troops in the conflict.

To the lefties who underestimated the British public - I suppose the only thing you can say now is "Oops". And to the rest of the lefties, we say . . . . nothing (may they be irrelevant in perpetuity)

I knew that once the Brits saw the reality of the situation they would be right there. It's going to be tough and I'm glad the British people are now on board. It's going to make it far easier for all of us. Next we have to get the Spanish and Italians behind their leaders.
