I wrote an email to the President of Columbia. I doubt he will respond but it was sent.

Subj: De Genova, Sedition Date: 3/28/2003 2:49:02 PM Eastern Standard Time From: To: bollinger@columbia.edu Dear Mr. Bollinger, While I truly respect free speech perhaps Mr. De Genova should stick to teaching anthropology, unless of course you agree with him too. Calling for the deaths of US military men and women is serious business. Expect huge criticism. At an anti-war "teach-in" this week, a Columbia University professor called for the defeat of American forces in Iraq and said he would like to see "a million Mogadishus" -- a reference to the Somali city where American soldiers were ambushed, with 18 killed, in 1993. "The only true heroes are those who find ways that help defeat the U.S. military," Nicholas De Genova, assistant professor of anthropology at Columbia University told the audience at Low Library Wednesday night. "I personally would like to see a million Mogadishus." Respectfully, Lisa NY ( full name and contact redacted) (mother of 2 children who will not be attending Columbia)

My email

I take offense to Nicholas De Genova comments. I am not an ignorant impoverished troll from fly
over country but an educated troll with two advanced degrees. I was raised in poverty but I did
not even know we were poor until my sisters told me at age 23. I did my two tours of Viet Nam
and have no apologies to offer. You have many to offer. I have two sons in the United States
Marine Corps and to have an announcement from Nicholas De Genova to proclaim that they
should die is beyond the pale. Be assured that I will do what I can to disseminate his agenda and
Columbias’ far and wide.

Best regards,

Patrick Wharton
