UC IRVINE PREZ -- "Knock Off War Talk"
KFI LOS ANGELES | 3-29-03 | dfu

Posted on 03/29/2003 7:43:30 AM PST by doug from upland

A good report just came from a news gal on KFI radio. The prez (I think) of the University of California Irving has issued a directive to the professors to stop talking about the war in class unless it is appropriate to be part of the class discussions.

Many students have complained about the antiwar statements in class, including a diatribe by a math professor. That scumbag had a girl in tears in his classroom. She has a loved one risking his life in Iraq.

Freedom of speech, it seems to me, does not include propaganda in the classroom. Let the math teacher go to a demonstration to exercise his free speech rights. In his math classroom, paid by California taxpayers, he is expected to teach math.

Thank goodness there is a college somewhere that wants to educate and not indoctrinate.

Was it a written directive? If so, I'd love to see a copy.

This is great news and coming out of Southern california of all places.

I'm all for free speech, etc, etc, but these radical professors have been getting away with this crap, talking about political subjects out of context to the class being taught, since the 60's. It's about time a stop was put to it.

This college administrator should be congratulated.

Unfortunately Doug that's exactly what it means to the left. They control the schools and we are pumping out students that couldn't find Iraq on a map but they have learned such valuable things and the proper way to put a condom on a banana. If you look at the young faces in these anti-war protests you see a lot of ignorance. Pliable young minds are their forte. Just look at the homosexual agenda and how it's being foisted on all students and at younger and younger ages. "Heather has two mommies" equals good, The "Boy Scouts" equals bad> It all makes me want to hurl mainly in their faces!

Teachers in the colleges need to have their tenures removed. The students are the future leaders of our nation, and it should be a crime for any teacher to hold political diatribes and to harangue upon a captive audience.

PE class?! I am not surprised. They are traitors to the ideal of the university, which is open and free discussion of all the issues, but they don't want that. They want to make little mental clones of themselves in the minds of their students.

It was only a quick blurb on the bottom of the hour news. I'll keep listening to say if they have more. I don't think they gave his name.

"They" control the schools.

Yes "They" do.

Talk about the enemy within.

The west is doomed, unless it wakes up to this fact

To the roof and let gravity do the rest. That is what happen to some of the victims of 9/11.

Most of these academic types have spines of linguine. A well timed visit during non-class hours and a face to face discussion about fortitude or the lack of it would go a long way towards having the young lady go through a class without tears.

I'm pasting in a related and somewhat lengthy set of thoughts I posted in an earlier thread discussing the media. Some relevance here, I believe:

You got that right. The number of people watching decent coverage via Fox is miniscule and insignificant in the big scheme of things. The masses get their news/marching orders/spoon-fed disinformation from the networks and a few major newspapers, just as they have for decades.

What can we do? Realistically, I believe the answer at this point is sadly, nothing. There's a group here on FR called CCRM, I believe, trying to make a difference. I applaud the effort, but I think it's a case of fighting an unbeatable enemy. The networks and the major newspapers are simply too well entrenched, too powerful, and they do not care what you think. They view you and me as subjects to be controlled, nothing more. Perhaps some grass roots organization will eventually have enough people to make a difference through widespread and highly organized boycotts of advertisers, but I'm not hopeful.

It's sad to think one is helpless and we must always fight instead of giving up, but I'm also a realist. I refuse to be a Pollyana who thinks the good guys always win. They don't. The liberal slant of the media goes beyond a simple bias that inadvertently influences the way in which they report the news. This is the case with many of the grunts in the business, but the leaders make the decisions. And at the leadership level, it genuinely is a concerted effort, a deliberate disinformation effort, a conspiracy, if you will. They have an agenda and several major media leaders are on the record laying out the fact that they will give the public the information they want them to have, period.

One of the entities that has been pushing the U.S. toward sacrificing sovereignty to the global machine has outright thanked the major American media for their cooperation (complicity) over the past forty or so years. Thanked them for keeping the push quiet, not ever revealing the truth that would cause the public to rise up, and feeding the public the information that will further the push. This is black-letter fact, not some goofy conspiracy theory, my friend.

The power behind these people is enormous and they correctly surmised long ago that when you control the information, you control everything and you can eventually implement whatever you want to. They start with the kids, indoctrinating them through the school system. They continue controlling them as adults through the news media.

Sorry to get so long-winded, but it's a subject on which I have very passionate beliefs. The media are our worst core logistical enemy. We will never truly change our country without changing the media, and I'm not hopeful that this can be done on a meaningful scale anymore. It's just too far gone.

I too "feel your pain." On down days I realize that this fight may be hopeless. BUT then I think about present circumstances and have some hope. We have a great opportunity to fix some things but it will take time. Don't forget Republicans now have marginal control in Washington. If this can be consolidated in the next few elections(I know, big IF) then I won't give up entirely. I do however share your pessimism for the most part. Could we start by "KILLING ALL THE LAWYERS?"

Although it's a MAMMOTH struggle in itself, I do think there's more hope (though still slight) for changing the education system, at least at the K-12 level. The college situation is kinda like the media, with the control so pervasive it's difficult to imagine meaningful change. But local elementary and high schools can be pressured more effectively IF people would just do it.

Colleges are different than high schools. Students at a college are not a "captive audience" unless they are in a required course at a public college.
