Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle says his criticism of President Bush's war policies toward Iraq 48 hours before U.S. troops went into combat was "ill-timed," but he did not retract them.
Republican leaders yesterday demanded he apologize to Mr. Bush, U.S. servicemen and women and to his constituents.

The $64 million dollar question, is will the South Dakota voters remember this when they walk into polls next year? While I think most Democrats are vile human beings, this rotten little turd is the lowest of the low.

Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle says his criticism of President Bush's war policies toward Iraq 48 hours before U.S. troops went into combat was "ill-timed," but he did not retract them. Reminds me of the classic Billy Tubbs story when the fans went beserk about the officiating during an Oklahoma home basketball game and were throwing things on the court. The refs told Tubbs to calm the crowd or he'd get a technical. He obliged them by saying to the effect, "No matter how bad the officiating is, you can't throw stuff on the court."

I'm disappointed, saddened, no, deeply troubled that the Daschole is now attempting to weazel it's way out of this with such a weak explanation.
But I do enjoy watching Tommy eat his words.

"I don't think the timing of those comments was necessarily the best; I think they could have been better timed," Mr. Daschle said Thursday. "I had no idea when I said them what the timing of the military operation would be." Daschle should have stop after these three words: "I don't think."

"I had no idea when I said them what the timing of the military operation would be." Such big lies for such a little man.

I love it that O'Reilly's been pounding on him: "His political career is finished." : ) (Answer to my prayers!)

Li'l Tom is a pissant obstructionist, bitter to the core. I just hope he keeps shooting from his little pie hole and Charley Rangel continues to make an ass of himself, accusing our military of purposely bombing women and children. Military personnel and their families will vote as a further 'firing for effect'. Maybe some democrat voters will figure it all out by 2004.

I just spent two years in South Dakota, and you may find this amazing, but it is a very, very patriotic state. I lived there during 9-11, and I saw it.
They have a large population of veterans...the state gave more sodiers to WWII, per capita, of any state in the Union.
It is very possible that this is his death rattle.
Added to that, there very well may be a large sympathy vote for Thune. He took his questionable defeat with alot of grace and aplomb, and he is very well liked. He didn't get over 70% in his statewide run for Congress for nothing.
Just thought I would give you a cheery thought to end the day. ;-)

I think it's time Tom 'Puff' Daschle becomes 'concerned' about his reelection posibilities. It would be great to have him and his creepy followers 'saddened' by the results of the next election.

Dash-Hole tried to put the entire blame for the diplomatic failure of all this at the feet of President Bush.
He refuses to acknowledge the Iraqi threat to our security and safety via WMD and direct links with terrorist organizations, except during Clinton's reign.
He refuses to acknowledge the complicity of France, Germany and Russia in providing illeagal weapons to this brutal regime. More than likely the leaders of these countries are benefiting directly from these transactions. They have much to hide. How else can their complete intransigence to any diplomatic solution be explained?
He refuses to acknowledge the corruption and extreme anti-Americanism of the UN and the farce that the weapons inspections were.
He has sided with our enemies for his political purposes and should be humiliated in the worst possible way.
This worm is despicable.
To: kattracks
He should also concede that his criticism was total BS. It would have been uncalled for no matter what the timing, because it was disingenuous and intellectually bankrupt. War became inevitable not because Bush failed at diplomacy, but because Chirac sabotaged the diplomacy by promising to veto any resolution no matter what. But this is the way Democrats operate. They've made the timing of
D@sshole's statement the issue, when the real issue is that the statement is a lie. And by apologizing for the timing,
D@sshole is distracting attention from his real offense, and implying that his statement is legitimate.
