Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I have no idea what they werre handling, or why they were wearing chem suits. But I can't imagine that troops in the field would be sent big barrels of chemical weapons, any more than they are sent buckets of high explosive for their grenades.Well it is possible the chemicals were being transported from factories to another site to assemble the munitions....not enough info for conclusion IMO...as for the chem suits and drums, could be psyops or could be the real thing..did they think we could observe them? where & how did the intel take place could it have been a set up to slow down our troops? How about Iraq using non-lethal chemicals that nonetheless set off chemical warnings forcing our troops to suit up and be handicapped as such? Personally I think Sadaam (or his ghost) has them and if he thinks he can use them effetively and has his back to the wall, he will use them, but they will backfire big time. JMHO.

That Baghdad would fall from the inside out, not the outside in--it was very cryptic, wasn't it?
To: Tree of Liberty
So, I take it that's a no? lol
To: Tree of Liberty
sources told him "we know who's with us, and who's against us, and we're in constant communication".
That will shake the inner circle of Saddam (or whoever is in charge). Now, they won't know who to trust. (snicker)
To: Catspaw
Didn't seem very cryptic to me. Smells of a coup in the offing.

lol, nope, quiet evening /sarcasm
To: Tree of Liberty
Very possible. I've gotten to the point I'll believe it when the lab guys tell us. We've got Media telling us about things they will not even do a basic info search on. They can't tell one missile from another, don't know one plane from the other. It would not surprise me to find out that the commander the guy that reported this as chemical agents is with said it may be so we're taking precautions. Then the guy just kind of dropped the may be. I have no doubt they will be found and possibly used.
To: Tree of Liberty
Either that or we're gonna dig a tunnel to the center of the city, stream our troops through it, and then attack from the inside... sounds like a good plan to ,me
To: Kadric
The military has never said what's in the barrels, BUT the Marines have confirmed that those handling them were in full chemical suits (boots, pants, gloves, jacket, gas mask, hood). That gives a pretty good clue as to what's in the barrels.

Nothing is going to be invested for the helicopters, they will be hopping closer to Baghdad every 48-72 hours.

I wonder if this hasn't been part of the plan all along - expecially after the Bunker hit. Pull the RG oiut and away from Baghdad, cut off their retreat, and then have an inside Overthrow of the Leadership.
Methinks our SF and CIA operatives have been very very busy boys lately.

Or paratrooping in from above. That'd be pretty bad tactics, IMO, though. My money is still on a coup.
To: Nam Vet
That's kinda what I'm thinking too.

ok bear with me, over the past two days I have slept total 8 hours, & worked 26, I'm a little tired.
Bret Baer has a credible story of a coup in Iraq & decided to go out on a date?
To: Tree of Liberty
What the heck is up with Shep? He's back talking like this "pause" is really going on.

A coup accomplishes two other things as well :
1. It relieves us of the burden of fighting in and around baghdad. Saves lots of Casualties
2. It SHAFTS the UN bigtime. A coup means a NEW GOVERNMENT is already in place, and the UN has no say so in it!

LOL, no. Shep just made a funny about inside sources say that Bret has a date tonight. There's no info about a coup, only that quote I posted above. It's my speculation that this is indicative of a coming coup.

According to
this site:
Without an adequate military protection, humanitarian ships were looted even before they could arrive in Mogadishu port, UN workers of Somali origin were killed, and relief workers had to pay gunmen with cars looked like the one of "Mad Max" to protect their relief missions. "Relief workers called these vehicles "technicals" because they were listed on their expense reports as "technical assistance."
