Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I've no doubt that the powers that be at the Pentagon have all gone over this adnauseum and for whatever reason known only to them, they choose to not provide a landing area for the helicopters. I believe I will quit trying to figure out and trust that they know what they are doing.

No No No The official office of disinformation was going to open but never did. It has been shelved. Or is it open? But if it is open then they won't admit it, if it is not open they also won't admit it or would they? If they say it isn't open is it really open. If they say it never opened how are we to know? I have a headache

You will like this one.
The Pope is visiting DC and President Bush takes him
out for an afternoon on the Potomac...sailing on the
presidential yacht, Sequoia.
They're admiring the sights when, all of a sudden,
the Pope's hat (zucchetto) blows off his head and out
into the water. The Secret Service agents start to
launch a boat, but Bush waves them off, saying "Wait,
wait. I'll take care of this. Don't worry."
Bush then steps off the yacht onto the surface of
the water and walks across the water out to the Holy Father's little
hat, bends over and picks it up, then
walks back on the water to the yacht and climbs aboard. He hands
the hat to the Pope amid Holy awe and stunned silence.
The next morning, the Washington Post carries a
story, with front-page photos, of the event.
The banner headline reads: "Bush Can't Swim."
GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Nah. They're doing "How do the troops feel?" stuff.
To: ChadGore
Yes, Blix is disappointed, Sarandon is disturbed, Daschle is deeply saddened and disappointed.....and it's all our fault. What are we going to do?

Regarding all of the speculation on Saddam's current status, I wonder if anyone can recall what kind of statements he made during the first Gulf War. Would he reference specific events and better date-stamp his appearances? As far as being taped, as I understand it, he has been doing that for years. That's how paranoid he is, he wouldn't risk broadcasting live and having his location identified. I think he also would release statements that were read by others.
To me, one of the best clues would come from comparing his first Gulf War statements with these current appearances.

Was the Third ID south of Karbala? If so, they are evidently in a much drier environment, maybe going between Karbala and the western shore of Bahr al Milh?
