Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

It might be a one-day job, but how much material is needed to do the work? I'm honestly asking. If it's alot, maybe the supply lines are not capable of moving the equipment at this time. Another possibility is that the troops on the ground have more pressing duties (important enough to make the trade-off with the helicopter costs worth it), or that they're moving forward to fast to make a concrete heliport worth it. Just some possible reasons, that's all.
To: rumrunner
Doesn't concrete require a good deal of water? Aren't we in a water crunch?

What about
pierced steel? The marine Harriers use pierced steel for forward deployment.

I am wondering why Dan Rather hasn't offered to go to Baghdad to interview Saddam Hussein now. Why hasn't he? Just a thought.

Rumor has it OBL will appear or speak soon.
I'm sure it will be the same rhetoric with no real proof it is him.

And that may explain Hackworth's departure from Fox...too many people let them know he was not appreciated for his gloom and doom. I think you're probably right. Hack's niche is people who get their guts all churned up over stuff. Buchananites and such. FNC knows better than to cater to them, when they've got mainstream America hanging on their reports.
Isn't Hack hacking on CNN these days?

Fox should get Marcinko to go head to head with Hack, that would be entertaining.

The concrete is NOT a one day job. First, you need TONS of concrete, sand, gravel, and, WATER. Our guys don't have enough to take showers. Plus, we need all of our airlift capability for food, ammo, spare parts, fuel, and more troops.
Tarps would be very light and quick to setup. When a sandstorm kicked up, you could pull the "landing tarp" up, and it becomes a cover for the helicopter.

IMO opinion, they are not going to be there long enough for the effort and use of supplies, even if they had them. Think about it for a sec...unless they build it large enough for all the helicopters nothing positive is accomplished. One pad would not be enough or it would have to be very very large.

They dug an artesian well. I'm not a concrete expert, but it would just seem easier and safer for the helicopters. I'm not sure how many of the 250 or so are with the 101st base there (maybe 50?). Sounds like it is a real problem, one that would take precedence over some other things.

Fox - Kelley with the 3rd ID cannot say where he is or where he's going. Several hundred vehicles moving. Expecting more alkud and fetaheen. Lost audio.
To: Tree of Liberty
Guess Kelly's unit is done pausing. He said they are moving and he can't say where.

Yeah, we see these questionable tapes and stuff, but I just feel very strongly that if these two spawns of Satan were in working condition, they would be out there on tv with absolute proof of some nature ...
Both because of their own egos and because of the boost it would give to their followers and their cause.
Naturally, their henchmen would try to hide the bodies and confuse the issue.

Fox - Greg Kelly back on the line. Not a routine patrol. On specific mission. Audio out again.
To: altura
Fox: They are on a significant northern push it sounds like. Signal cutting out.

Greg Kelley embedded with the 3 id says he is on a "significant" move.

I am logging off for tonight. I will watch a little TV and then crash. See you all tomorrow!
