Everywhere! | 29 Mar 2003 | An.American.Expatriate

Posted on 03/28/2003 8:53:48 PM PST by null and void

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

To all who helped this get started, thank you!

Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Aren't (or weren't) Bill Kristol's parents members of the far, far left (Democratic Socialists or even Communists)?

My father was a member of the Youth International Party (college commies) and look at me now. LOL

"...sounds like we still have the "wishful thinkers" in charge at the pentagon..."

Sounds like we have a freeper who thinks they know more about the situation than the military professionsals do.
And all of this in-depth analysis made from the comfort of their cushie chair in their living room.
Abso-freeping-mazing.

The big "X" on the inside means there is infantry present. A "Rectangle" or "rounded rectangle" inside indicates the presence of armor. Some units have both, infantry and armor, which is termed "Mechanized Infantry".

There is also a symbol above the diamond (or outer rectangle, for coalition forces). If there is one small "x", it is a Brigade, "xx" is a Division, and "xxx" is a Corps.

I see some unit force identified with "iii", the "Airborne Infantry Regiment" to be exact. I would guess that the distinction between "X" and "i" designations is that "i" refers to infantry force size, and "x" reers to armor force size (with some implied haman strength to support a unit of armor).

Anyway, the above is my best guess, just from examination of the maps. I don't see any change in force ascribed to Ham1, Neb6 or Med2. FWIW, Medina is the Iraq 2nd Division. There is ONLY a Med2, etc.

In the press briefing complaints were lodged about cellphone use not being allowed in some units.I bet they are in a blackout. Time for psy ops.

oh come on, you must now admit that those claims about the "regime collapsing" and "leadership fleeing" and "mass surrenders" that were made the first few days were all nonsense. And now they are predicing this?

Even the currently military analyst on Fox right now is saying this is insane. Its not just me.

No it does look like a division although it does say 40%. Not sure what all that means. I sent an e-mail to the web site to see if they can offer a little more clarification.

this army general (Donald Edwards) on fox just now was good, very realistic report about the challenges of the ground operations at the point of attack with the RGs south of baghdad.

Who told us where Saddamn was that first night? One more good tip-off and this whole thing could end sooner rather than later.

Does anyone think, as I do, that at least 50% of the comments coming from the Pentagon regarding the regime collapsing are psy ops?
