Everywhere! | 29 Mar 2003 | An.American.Expatriate

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

To all who helped this get started, thank you!

Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

LOL! Well if I knew how to spell the darn name, I'd do a google search. I'd probably get sewing patterns and washing instructions with the way I am spelling it.

Will there be a Pentagon briefing tomorrow as well as a CENTCOM briefing?

Anybody know the times for the briefings?

Sky News is still working on the announcement part of this, not that they are taking a pause but why they ANNOUNCED it. That is the key. This will actually stir the Arabs up more they say.

The Seersucker, HY-2, is a coast-to-ship defensive tactical missile weapon system.

After the missile is fired, ground guidance and control are not necessary. The firing position also remains concealed.

Maximum effective range is 95 km at high sub-sonic speed.

does anyone see a problem with the delay?

Agreed. We have all the time in the world. It's Saddam that doesn't.

....they did move very fast up...but that still seems odd to not have anticipated needs for adequate supplies and ability to keep up with troops.

I think they are just setting up. The first bunch is collecting intel, taking out whatever and whoever gets in the way and establishing their presence. Meanwhile the line of troops and supplies behind them just keeps moving up. It's a baiting game too. If the RG makes a move of any size air support greases them. The more ground troops we bring up the more tempting it is (to a point) for the RG to try an assault. They're dead meat whatever they do.

I think it was all in the plan from day one. Talk up Chacanaw and then hit them with surgical strikes. Let them sit in Baghdad and make jokes about how little we got. Bet they're not sleeping much with those precision hits coming in every six hours or so.

remember, one purpose of this war was to scare the hell out of our other enemies, which we are not doing

That's an interesting view of warfare. I'd always seen its purpose as to kill the enemy and break their property. Making someone scared doesn't win a war. Obliterating them, and making the survivors succumb to your will does.

Last number I heard (I think it was during O'Reilly) was 7 POW, 4 MIA

That 4 MIA is from a recent attack in Nasareia(sp). Total MIA is 16.

the sucky part for me was... I came between the period where they put cigarettes in the rations, and the gourmet food era they have now. We just had crap to eat and no smokes, booze, playing cards, or anything more edible than those damned crackers.

It is a true fact folks. Nothing goes in those MRE's that can not last 3 years. Think about that when ya reach for a twinkie.... which should be in MRE's, as the 3 year tech has already been accomplished by Hostess Foods.

CentCom not confirming the 4-6 day ground halt, yet

Yes, but Rick Leventhal, while not confirming the info, said something like "he wasn't surprised."

The delay will allow the air war to inflict some bigtime attrition on the enemy.
