the sucky part for me was... I came between the period where they put cigarettes in the rations, and the gourmet food era they have now. We just had crap to eat and no smokes, booze, playing cards, or anything more edible than those damned crackers.
It is a true fact folks. Nothing goes in those MRE's that can not last 3 years. Think about that when ya reach for a twinkie.... which should be in MRE's, as the 3 year tech has already been accomplished by Hostess Foods.
I was in the Army in the early-mid 80's when they first introduced MRE's. I was in the last class of trainees to actually eat C-rations. (for some sick reason, I actually LIKED them..) I'd like to try some of the new MRE's to see what the difference is.
(The one thing I rememebr about the first batch of MRE's was the Chicken ala King. That crapola coulda been used as a bioweapon.)
