The Chron Finally Focuses on Rising Anti-Semitism

Being bereft of hate crimes against Muslims to report, the Chronicle finally turned its attention to the rise of anti-Semitism across the nation, and in particular the Bay Area. Despite the fact that this has been a subject of concern for many since 9/11, the Chron has rarely addressed the issue. Even when Chron articles included so-called Hate Crime statistics showing that attacks on Jews had increased, they still buried the information under headlines that focused on anti-Muslim bias.

It's very difficult to express opinions or comments without insulting someone or being put on a certain "side." How do you please everybody?

Like Rush said, you do not because you cannot!

I learned early on you can't make everyone happy. All you can do is be yourself and find people that are walking the same "path." With that said I can finally say i have found my home here on FreeRepublic.com

Welcome to FreeRepublic! Where are you, that you've signed up 3/29 while it's still 3/28 in the States?

Well, that's all well and good, but I still reserve the right to criticize media bias where I find it. And the Chronicle is notorious for its liberal bent, which is why there's a web site devoted to (among other things) exposing its bias.

I'll admit, complaining about the Chron does get old at times, which is why I rarely write these kind of articles. However, I've got a longstanding beef with them about their coverage or lack thereof, of "hate crimes" against Jews, and I felt it was worthy of a column.

But I'm glad you found the FReep, as I did. It's been a home to me too, among others.

I recently submitted an application for a concealed carry permit to the San Jose Police Department citing the rising tide of anti-semitism as justification. This article should be another bit of ammo in support of that.

I also mentioned Penal Code §186.21, in which the legislature has declared that it is a right to be secure and protected from fear, intimidation, and physical harm caused by the activities of violent groups and individuals, and Government Code §845, which says that the government has no obligation to protect you.

We'll see how it goes...

Actually I am in California. I really don't know why it shows that i signed up in 3/29.

I would have replied sooner but i was recording the "Ride for Freedom" that a few (i think 6) hundred riders agreed to partake. They rode from all over California (Sacramento, Central Valley, Bay area) to meet in San Francisco.

After a break in recording the event, i decided to swing by the pro-american ralley in SF held near the civic center. Bought a shirt and bumper sticker from the guys at www.ProtestWarrior.com (keep up the good work fellas!) and then went back to work.

I hope you mentioned the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights of the Constitution of the United States of America signed by the Founding Fathers and Ratified by all colonies and all new states.

I hope you do reserve that right to free speech. So many men have found and died on the battlefield to give you and everyone that right.

It's sad that media today is biased. I very rarely respect any media and trust their articles. It is becoming too hard trying to avoid the spin and opinions added in articles or stories.

Anti-seminism still exists and i am suprised at everytime i notice it. It can be so subtle as a simple joke. It makes me wary of the source and their credibility.

I've never read the Chronicle and i don't think i will in the future. If you see a longstanding media bias with them in the form of anti-seminism, i would clip and compile the articles and send it to the FCC.

Trust me, I agree with you ... it was worthy of a column. Anti-seminism disgusts me and i've had my full of it. If this war does antyhing, it'll put the spotlight on more prejudice. Hopefully, more people will realize the bias and PEOPLE will boycott the paper, as is their freedom. I think that is something that escapes some of our actors and singers.

And the Chronicle is notorious for its liberal bent

Sometimes they call me on the phone to get me to take the Chron. It is always an excuse for me to really go off on someone. I usually tell them I would not take the Chron if it was the last paper on earth, or that it is a communist newspaper.

Ys it is fun. They called me about a week ago, but they made the mistake of calling me the night Bill Clinton won the election the first time in 92. What a mistake that was. I was in such a bad mood already, I just started yelling and screaming at the caller. Well, I had to take out my frustrations on someone.

I hope you mentioned the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights of the Constitution of the United States of America signed by the Founding Fathers and Ratified by all colonies and all new states.

You must not have heard -- the Second Amendment does not apply in California.

Citing a basis in their earlier Hickman v. Block decision, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the highest authority short of the US Supreme Court on the meaning of the Constitution in California, said "the Second Amendment does not confer an individual right" in its ruling in the Silveira v. Lockyer case.

Given this state of affairs, it would be pointless to raise the Second Amendment in an application for a CCW, and will be until either the people of California or the US Supreme Court make a change.

No i haven't heard. Thanks for filling me in and linking that Silveira v. Lockyer case. Going to try to find time to read those.

I guess i just assumed that the constitution is the ruling doctrine the entirety of America abides. I guess California is special. The 2nd Amendment doesn't apply in California ... *sigh*

Well then let's get rid of all of them. If we can throw out one, let's throw out the rest! I say let's get rid of this icky 1st amendment, then we can punish anyone that argues with the people who are in power! smack around all the news shows... bah.

Now i need to read up on this. Thanks for the 411.

There's another case working, Nordyke v. King, in which Russ & Sally Nordyke who promote the T&S Gun Show, are suing the County of Alameda in order to overturn their ban on possession of firearms on county property that was enacted in order to ban gun shows.

It started out as a freedom of assembly case, but the District judge made the mistake of mentioning the Second Amendment in one of his comments, and that opened the door for Don Kilmer to throw a batch of Second Amendment arguments into the mix.

A different three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit came to the same conclusion as Silveira's panel, but only because they were bound by the Hickman v. Block precedent, and they had some very harsh words (by judicial standards) for the concept that the Second Amendment is not an individual right.

This case's petition for en-banc review is due tomorrow.

By the way, another avenue we're planning for restoring the right to arms in California is to amend the state's constitution. Click on the link for details, and sign up on the mailing list so we can let you know when things start rolling.
