Interesting (just pondering here)
When I was in college, there was an influx of Iraqi Refugees. They, too, stayed to themselves and wouldn't interact. I became friends with one of them I was helping in math (yes, our friendship ended once the need for math help was fulfilled). Again, still odd interactive behavior. None of her friends would speak directly to me. Only through her with their native tongue (obviously they spoke some English, they were in an American College).
I can't figure out if it is a cultural thing or not. Cultural distrust from where and how they were raised? Don't know.

When I was in college...So, you noticed it too. I don't know why it was either. Ours was a small friendly college and at first we thought they were just shy, or different culture, new country, whatever. We tried to reach out to them but they weren't receptive. It was like they resented even being here, a punishment if you will. Strange.

I've been at MU for three years now. From my observations, funny enough, it appears the number of muslim students have gone down. I have no official numbers on this, just what I see walking around campus. Perhaps I should start wearing a surgical mask though as there has been a HUGE influx of asian students :-S.
