Rumsfeld Warns Syria on Iraq Equipment
By .c The Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) - Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld issued a stern warning to Syria on Friday to stop sending military equipment to Iraqi forces, saying such shipments have included night-vision goggles.
``We consider such trafficking as hostile acts and will hold the Syrian government responsible for the incidents,'' Rumsfeld said at a Pentagon briefing.

I suspect that will be the only verbal warning they'll get. The next one might be a bit more harsh, say, in the form of a TLAM strike.

U.S. warns Syria over military shipments to Iraq WASHINGTON, March 28 (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said on Friday shipments of military equipment have been crossing into Iraq from neighboring Syria and said the United States would hold Syria's government accountable for the "hostile acts." Rumsfeld also warned Iran against inserting military personnel into Iraq during the war, saying such forces would be treated by U.S.-led forces as combatants. 03/28/03 13:44 ET

Beautiful. The bigger this war gets, the more jihadis we kill. C'mon Syria and Saudi, send your people to fight the US, we got lots of ammo!

I suspect this is where the Iraqis got the Russian Kornet and GPS jammers as well. The Russians are not fools and would gain nothing by selling these directly to Iraq.

This came out yesterday, before the Syrian Mufti began running his yap and they started letting jihadis across the border to fight coalition forces:
Assad: Syria won't wait until it becomes next coalition target
By Haaretz Service 27 March 2003
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/277670.html Syrian President Bashar Assad was quoted in Lebanese newspaper As-Safir Thursday as calling on Arab nations to oppose the coalition and hinting that Syria expects a coalition attack. He also called Israel a threat to Syria.
Assad was quoted as saying that Damascus does not intend to wait until it becomes the next target of the coalition forces, Israel Radio reported Thursday. He did not provide further details.
The Syrian president added that the allied countries are plotting against all the Arabs and called on Arab nations to oppose the coalition.
Assad was also quoted as saying that as long as the state of Israel exists, Syria remains threatened. He also said there's no chance that U.S. President George W. Bush's road map would put an end to the Palestinian intifada
I did some more checking ( read the Syrian news) and they have a whole page devoted to hating America and hoping we die, mass protests, etc. What was really significant was a March 24 meeting with the Syrian FM and the Iraqi ambassador where they did everything but kiss each other in a show of friendship.
I am beginning to wonder if they are stupid enough to counter-attack us across the border to help their buddies in Iraq out. If they do, its their A**.

Any hostile action taken by the Syrians against us in Iraq would just save us the trouble of setting the political ball in play to go after them post Saddam.

Absolutely it would. It would also allow a little long awaited payback for a few Marines who still remember 1983.
