Breaking, unconfirmed: 3 Arabs detained on Williamsburg Bridge; bridge closed

WABC radio is reporting three persons of "Arabic descent" have been detained after leaving suspicious item on Williamsburg Bridge.

This bridge is one of the main routes into Manhattan from Brooklyn.

Haven't heard that terminology yet, but just switched to Fox 5. Reporters say the men are in custody. Apparently there are "suspicious packages" being searched for. Helicopters flying at low altitude to inspect.

Damnit! I was soooo hoping to see them "detained" on the bridge... At least until it blew up!

Or...another example of keeping the lid on the stupid attempts of Iraqi/Muslim/Al-Qaeda sympathizers attempting to terrorize the population and disrupt the economy. You have to admit that shutting down the Williamsburg Bridge is a bit more newsworthy than a car-chase in LA.

I know that bridge. It's in my old neighborhood. There is a pedestrian walkway. Anyone in either neighborhood on either side (lower east side of Manhattan, Williamsburg Brooklyn) can walk on it. Middle easteners or anybody else walking on it are not suspicious. Anybody can, without giving a reason.

Going down on ropes when the cops get close is suspicious.

What exactly is going on?
