Saddam's 'Mrs Anthrax' revealed
Evening Standard ^ | By Hugh Dougherty in Qatar

In a chilling signal to the Allies, the woman who runs Iraq's chemical warfare programme has been shown on TV at Saddam Hussein's war cabinet.

Scientist Huda Salih Mahdi Ammash, known as Mrs Anthrax to Western intelligence, was sitting next to Saddam Hussein's son Qusay. The pictures, broadcast by Iraqi television, send a clear message to the West and increase fears that the Iraqi dictator is on the brink of using his weapons of mass destruction.

The woman is the key figure behind Iraq's illegal weapons programme and helped rebuild his biological capibility after the Gulf war in 1991.

But the fact that she is one of Saddam's most trusted aides has shocked Allied military commanders. It comes after the discovery of chemical weapons suits issued to Iraqi soldiers in what could have been a possible preparation for chemical attack on US and British forces.

Any conclusive proof that Iraq possesses banned chemical or biological weapons would be a huge boost to America and Britain in the battle to win over world opinion in support of the war. There have been reports that Saddam has taken to his deep bomb-proof bunker as he prepares his soldiers for the battle for Baghdad which he hopes will see allied forces sucked into bitter street fighting.

The Iraqi capital saw one of the heaviest nights of bombing of the war so far last night, with telecommunication facilities targeted by US missiles.

But the advance of US and British troops appears to have stalled, with constant harassment by small groups of Iraqi irregulars.

Ammash and al-Hindawi are among Iraq's top weapons scientists. Others include Amir al-Saadi, a chief chemical weapons researcher, and Dr. Rihab Taha, a woman who was dubbed ''Dr. Germ'' by inspectors.

Those pictures speak volumes at least to me. I fail to understand the "thinking" of these peace protesters, or even Anan who slams the death of civilians. How many civilizns does Saddam kill each year? Where is the reasoning

That's assuming he (and she by default) are still alive.

We pray that any attack is blown back to the attacker. Our armed forces live and go under the shadow of the Almighty; praying the Word, He delivers them from the snare of the fowler and the perilous pestilence!

Can you add 'Graphic Photos' to the title of this thread? AI am not trying to have the photos pulled, but I don't think anyone eating lunch while reading FR is going to want to stumble upon gruesome photos without warning.

Unfortunately, it's not about public support, is it? It's about what he can do with those weapons.

Hello there.

Hey, the thing that outrages me is that I heard that this woman earned degrees--she even earned her doctorate--right here in the U.S., in Texas and Missouri. Geez, it makes me sick how many people we are educating who absolutely HATE our country.

Perhaps another addition to the long list of history's "black widows"?

Nothing hurts like the truth. Rangel is a very dishonorable man. I can't decide if he is a liar or a moron or both.

Not that this character has any legitimate credibility but it must be mentioned ... the pope see's our fighting against this evil as "unjust". Good God! How can anyone suggest that removing saddam insane isn't right? After tweleve years of sanctions and U.N. violations and still, this is an "unjust war"?

What ever happened to the sanctity of life? Has that gone by the wayside as well? It's clear to me that sexually molested children don't matter. Now we have evil personified being removed as "unjust". God help this pope when he has to stand before God and account for HIS life and HIS statements and HIS actions. The Judeo CHristian God would expect a God fearing person to stop this evil.
