Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running on the weekend, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I can't remember about that quote from Clinton.
I do remember, however, Barney Frank saying the other night that since we are doing so well in the war, Clinton must not have hurt the military.
I found this despicable, because we all know that the armed services have been scrambling, hustling, and juggling to get things ready, and that all sorts of reserves and guard units have been called up. But if you refute Frank, you risk hurting morale by saying we are weaker than we should be.
He made me sick with the absolute cynicism in which he put forth that theory. It was so in your face...sort of like "OK, choose, hurt morale or admit Bush lied."
Democrats are evil.

Do any of you all remember an article about Bill Clinton recently, saying that the war in Iraq would be easy because of all the "work" he did during his administration?
To: bvw
Hey -- you wuz warned about Freepin' at work yesterday! I remember your saying so ... anyway why don't ask the jake to check out FR?I don't think that was me, but I'm pretty ditzy and have no short-term memory so you could be right! LOL!

Have the Iraqis ever been reported to have Silkworms? Iranians have them, but that would make no sense...

Nam Vet the media now has the Clinton storyRush actually mentioned it today as well. I told Miss Marple, but he didn't linger over it.
I think with Ari supplying the many, many quotes today of the what the administration actually said, well, the truth is coming out, isn't it, as to who was as busy as Johnny Appleseed, sowing this notion where ever he went?
Brilliant, Miss Marple.

I guess he thought Saddam would have an easier time than he's having...

Thanks for the heads-up on Bob Arnot's report. I'll look for it (though I have a hard time listening to Keith Oberman with a straight face).
Bob Arnot's reports have been incredibly varied and interesting. I'm impressed that he speaks Arabic---who knew?! He's a doctor. I know he flies his own plane. And he's a darn good reporter. I was surprised to see him over there, but I'm glad he is. Very interesting views.

Both sides have had Silkworms during the Iran-Iraq War. There was a Silkworm battery at Umm Qasr.

D, I saw that video; what a faker! He didn't even look hurt!
To: Howlin
Yes, Clinton did say that it would be easier because of the work his administraiton had done. It was in front of a group just last week, I believe.

Gotta love that Ann. A small and crooked thumb.
All I can think of when I envision Clinton is a middle finger. His pointed at America and mine pointed at him.

The GREAT One shows real class...Gretzky told a press conference in Calgary on Tuesday: "
All I can say is the president of the United States is a great leader, I happen to think he's a wonderful man and if he believes what he's doing is right, I back him 100 percent."

Just reading that makes me angry.
To: Howlin
I do remember him insinuating that a war with Iraq would be easy, because we are bigger and they are smaller. (I don't know if those were his exact words, but they were of similar depth.) This was on one of his recent 60 minute appearances.
To: Ragtime Cowgirl
I don't know if there is a link to an article about it or not, but after Gretzky said that the other day, hockey "fans" vandalized a statue of him in Edmonton. I can't imagine those were actually hockey fans because he's a living icon of hockey. Classless losers.

Here it is! It's a Clinton quote from his first "debate" with Dole on 60 minutes:
"By the time I left office, tough sanctions, inspections and air strikes had left him far weaker than he was in the Gulf War, as I think we'll see if there's military action."

This isn't quite it, but it is a little more defined to a timeframe. X-42 gave an interview to
NPR on March 6th. The operative paragraphs:
If conflict does come, Clinton said, he thinks a war could be "over in a week" because of what he sees as the overwhelming capability of U.S. forces and the depletion of Iraq's military strength.
"I think it's important to disarm this man, I think he's a bad fella, but our military superiority is so great -- it's far greater than it was in the Gulf War, and the Gulf War was over in 100 hours after we bombed for 43 days," Clinton said. "And so now they can bomb for a couple of days and then just roll into Baghdad. His military is less than half the strength it was 12 years ago and ours is more sophisticated and better and more modern."
Sorry for shouting but, HE GAVE THE INTERVIEW TO NPR!!!
GOT THAT, MOIRA?
To: Timeout
Good find. I just did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for - this is as close to it as I remember. Thx.
