Illinois Shotgun-Ban Bill Passes Senate Committee

Senate Bill 1195 (SB 1195), sponsored by Illinois Democratic Sen. Antonio Munoz, bans any shotgun that has a bore of .50 caliber or more. It outlaws 10, 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauge shotguns and even muzzleloaders. The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee by a vote of 6-4 and now awaits a vote on the Senate floor.

The U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance (USSA) says even if the clause imposing bore restrictions is fixed, SB 1195 bans any shotgun that has threads inside the end of the barrel. The USSA says that means any shotgun with choke tubes would be illegal. The bill also bans shotguns with a magazine capacity of more than four shells. Illinois citizens would have 90 days to turn in their guns to authorities or face prosecution.

The USSA is encouraging sportsmen to contact their senators and ask them to oppose SB 1195. To find the name of your legislator, call (217) 782-8223 or click on the "Legislative Action Center" link near the bottom, right-hand corner of the USSA Web site, www.ussportsmen.org.

I live out here in CA, and Arizona don't look half bad. My wife is from AZ and we will move in 05.

It will probably still be a battle to stay free there too, I'm sure.

"I fear in the end there will be a lot of vacancies in law enforcement and public office if this bill passes the Illinois Senate. "

Maybe not when it passes the Senate, but if it's ever signed into law, I guarantee there will be more than a few 'vacancies' created.

Yeah - I thought of you, bro. There aren't many choices here, and all of them are ugly. Some more so than others. I thought for sure that the Peoples' Republik of Kalifornia would be the flashpoint. Now I'm not so sure.

How else would a state legislature even dream of voting on a bill like this?

Perhaps they've got a death wish.

There's definitely a 'choosing sides' thing going on - the anti-American scum coming out the woodwork are doing a bang-up job of getting folks to think about where they want to be when that Day comes.

That's OK, things are cooler up there (in more ways than one)

Colorado just passed a new carry law too (in spite of the idiots in Denver) the area between Cortez / Durango / Silverton isn't bad either

To all those that plan on running away, they'll be waiting for you when you get there. It's best to stay put and stand your ground. Don't give an inch......

In terms of places to be, I was referring more to state of mind and heart than physical location. Otherwise, it's often better to take the battle to the enemy - on your terms, and at a time and a place of your choosing.

I believe you are correct, God forbid it becomes necessary and the legisleeches see the light, but if not, I would invest in rope. Lots and lots of rope.

Fear is something that socialists understand, they need to be made afraid. Absolutely, completely, pissing thier pants, gibbering in terror, hiding in the corner and crying thier eyes out, afraid.

It's been too long since the American Revolution, blood that is dry is blood that is forgotten. Sounds like it's time to remember the blood of our fathers.

You can bet that when this becomes law, it will be enforced as an anti-terrorist action ... and those who speak of "prying firearms from their cold, dead fingers" will be considered the terrorists. (By their own slogan, they intend to be suicide terrorists!)

Should have thought about that when you were so excited about the Patriot Act. The libs will be pleased to apply it against gun owners.

Other Amcits are now deprived of more than just 2nd amendment rights. The typical lib thinks a gun-toting Christian conservative is just as dangerous as you think an antiwar Muslim is. With legislation like this, gun owners might just be next occupants of Gitmo.
