What's wrong with this creep? Is he on the payroll of Saddam Hussein? More likely Martin Sheen bankrolled this Smucker fellow. Leaves a bitter taste in one's mouth. And I happened to like Smucker's jam.

Except that I MEF has the 3rd Marine Air Wing, and III MEF has the 1st Marine Air Wing, go figure...

"Philip Smucker... was not embedded but joined the First Marine Division on Sunday"
I heard this guy describe how he and the photographer were in Iraq as independents and just "attached" themselves to a unit!!(for protection no less) The unit must have not wanted to cause bad pr or something but the guy seemed such a jerk I couldn't believe they didn't try to MP this guy out of there.

I've learned from Christian Science folk that none of this is real anyway. So, I wonder why they don't just send their journalists to the front....in the line of fire.

Directory of Mark Twain's maxims, quotations, and various opinions:
FREEDOM OF THE PRESS
It is a free press...There are laws to protect the freedom of the press's speech, but none that are worth anything to protect the people from the press.
- License of the Press speech
...the liberty of the Press is called the Palladium of Freedom, which means, in these days, the liberty of being deceived, swindled, and humbugged by the Press and paying hugely for the deception.
- "From Author's Sketch Book, Nov. 1870," reprinted in The Twainian, May 1940

He should be fined, confined or refined. Hope they hold fast to the rules of reporting here. I am not willing to risk soldiers' lives so that some anti-America liberal can "report".

Poobah, I am writing to a marine over there, but have no idea about marine stuff... maybe you could tell me which embedded to watch to see how his unit is doing...
he is in 4th AA Bn. I got his name from an officer who posted his name as someone not getting mail, so I write to him every day, but would love to be able to figure out where he is.
reply privately if you think it a bad idea to post anything in public forum.

Too bad they couldn't have dropped old Phil by parachute into Baghdad for a front row view of the coming conflagration.
