"My understanding of the facts at this point from the commander on the ground is that this reporter was reporting, in real time, positions, locations and activities of units engaged in combat," Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said in a statement to the Monitor. If this reporter was reporting on the position of the II M.E.F. (if I've got that name right) that has been placed in Jordan and West Iraq, it's interesting to read that it's "engaged in combat."

Better to get rid of him than chance the fool leaks something else. Break the rules and you're outta here!

A reporter for The Christian Science Monitor has been ordered out of Iraq after the Pentagon said he revealed the location of a Marine unit during a television interview. See ya, moron!

Smucker reported the unit's location Wednesday during an interview on CNN...It figures CNN would somehow end up aided the enemy.

Have a nice day. Perhaps he can become an "imbed" for the Medina division.

1st MarDiv is part of I MEF, not II MEF (which seems to have disappeared...check between the couch cushions).

was not embedded but joined the First Marine Division on SundayIf this reporter was reporting on the position of the II M.E.F.
First Marine Division is not an element of II Marine Expeditionary Force.

I believe this is the same guy who was on NPR earlier this week bragging about all of the things he did to get into Iraq from Kuwait illegally, or at least against police orders. He struck me as a smart-aleck jerk who has no respect for anything except a story scoop.
It also turns out (from a previous thread) that his dad is a hardcore antiwar zealot who, if I recall correctly, was among those arrested over the past weekend. So counting on "Freelance Phil" to provide anything except antiwar tripe would probably be futile.
For giving away troop positions, he's lucky he's alive, considering the potential jeopardy he place soldiers in.
Non-embedded reporters who get hurt or killed have no one to blame but themselves and perhaps their bosses. In fact, if their bosses ordered them in as non-embeddeds and they get hurt, the families of the survivors should be able to sue the publications involved into bankruptcy.

II MEF has the 2nd marine Division. You know...jarheads...keep it simple.
