WAUSAU, Wis. -- A man upset that a war protester was parading around downtown Wausau with a defaced American flag is facing a disorderly conduct charge after attacking the demonstrator.
The incident happened Monday afternoon outside the Marathon County Courthouse. Mike Wallschlaeger of Mosine carried an upside down flag with "EMPIRE" written across it.
A fellow demonstrator says a man got out of his car, tried to grab the flag, then pushed Wallschlaeger to the ground, punched and kicked him.
Wausau Police Chief William Brandimore says the right to free speech is protected, but disorderly conduct is not.

Desecrating the American flag and what she stands for, freedoms that our ancestors have fought and died for, is not a right.
Actually, I believe this is a right, declared constitutional by the Supreme Court.

Hi Phil. Please ping me when you do updates on this case. Hopefully, FReepers will not let that man down. He cannot remain alone to face what appears to be trumped-up charges.

Being a tool of international socialist organizations that want to undermine the U.S. and capitalism is a symptom of stupidity and gullibility, and is not emblematic of being patriotic or of exercising one's rights.
You're saying we don't have a right to be stupid in this country?
To: Eaker
Ain't that the damn truth. My wife flips 'em off...the few we have here in Nashville around Vandy mainly.
I try to keep away from them...I don't trust myself around my nation's enemies from within...I know I know...first amendment...blah blah blah...
I heard some granola commie dyke in SF on the tube last week claiming that "America was acting like a bitch with a broken nail after 9-11".....had I been around her skanky ass....I hate to think. LOL...it doesn't converge well with my stance of no women in combat.

He is not alone.
How did things get so messed up?
You cannot call people names that are racially offensive, and that is as it should be, good. But making other gestures is even more than any offensive name-calling.
Our soldiers put themselves in harms way for that flag. They should never have to tolerate it being treated in that way, not in this country. Those who have fought and died for our freedom of speech should not have to suffer most from it.
They should be held a measure above other sensitivities, not beneath.

"America was acting like a bitch with a broken nail after 9-11".....I wish that I could deliver my anger to her.
There would be a fury that would get Gods attention...

I can appreciate some of the defense here tonight . We are a nation of law after all . But I'm backing this man . He broke the law or so it is alledged . Ok .
Like a few others here tonight I'll use my 1st Amendment right to help him . Frankly I have my doubts the alledged incident happened the way it was reported anyway !

You need to return to another few posts of mine before making such a leap that I neither implied nor stated.

What I support is the truth -- Casey's side of the story is intriguingly not being told, and one should wonder why, one should demand to know why his actions earned scorn and legal troubles while a desecrator of the flag, an anti-American sleazebag escapes a citation issued by the same police who cited the patriot.
WHY?

Is this the same guy? Are you certain? The flag desecrator is only 39, and reviewing Wisconsin Court records, there are a few people with a similar name. Careful!

Stone Mountain: Actually, I believe this is a right, declared constitutional by the Supreme Court.
SCOTUS doesn't establish rights. SCOTUS doesn't declare something constitutional. SCOTUS, as one of the three equal branches of our federal government, may determine, for example, if legislation is constitutional. In 1990, SCOTUS struck down legislation that would have made it illegal to deface, burn, etc., Old Glory.
That's a far cry from saying, Have it, you anti-American idiots. It's your right to do so.

We are probably going to see a lot more of this happening. Watching our troops on the news and then seeing some jerk deface our flag is going to cause people to pop a cork with this going on day after day.
Heck I've been tempted to start driving around with a super soaker in the car. I think a drive by squirting would make me feel great.
To: armymarinemom
Y'know, just glancing around the Internet this evening, what I keep finding are stories about a Vermont National Guardsman being stoned by teenage boys, other pro-America citizens being harrassed, traffic snarled by anti-Americans who would have this nation destroyed to the crush of a totalitarian state, and here's a guy who loves his country, respects his flag, asks the pathetic scuzzbag flag desecrator to stop .. and he winds up tabbed for disorderly conduct?
