Anti-War Useful Idiot "Independent Reporter" in Baghdad Gives Evidence of Iraqi Cover-Ups (Pacifica)
Pacifica Radio, via Leftist May Ying Welch's "Reporting" from Baghdad ^

Pacifica Radio in the United States is utilizing the services of American "independent journalist" May Ying Welch who is fronting for A.N.S.W.E.R. and other anti-American/pro-Iraqi groups, and who is on the ground in Baghdad right now.
Welch's on-site reports air on communist, anti-American Pacifica Radio, in the format of a call-in segment to the program "Democracy Now", and may be of value in terms of actually exposing, (through her unwitting cooperation), the propaganda war being waged by the Ba'athist regime in Iraq and other vital information.
She is also valuable in providing post-sortie BDA information to our side. In a way, in this sense, while being a useful idiot for the enemy's regime and propaganda infrastructure, she is also a useful resource for the Pentagon. She revealed the following:
TOPICS: Crime/Corruption; Culture/Society; Foreign Affairs; Front Page News; Government; News/Current Events; War on Terror
KEYWORDS: 5thcolumn; iraq; marketbomb; mayyingwelch; pacifica; propaganda; traitors; usefulidiots

--Upon going to the site of the civilian market bombing in northern Baghdad at Shaab today, May Ying Welch noticed that enemy officials had quickly taken away sharpnel and material from the two bomb craters "created by US missiles". They were also quickly filling up the craters when she arrived. Asked why they did not leave the remnants there as proof of American bombing of civilian areas, they were told "it might be contaminated."--She said that enemy Iraqi TV/Radio building facility is inhabited 24 hours a day. She said that Iraqi TV is still on, but the quality is very grainy and she could not understand a thing they were saying.
--She said Iraqi officials are going door- to-door with quickly printed flyers showing a joint statement by Iraqi spiritual leaders of both the Shiite and Sunni factions, call for a "jihad" by the people on advancing Americans--that if they do not participate in the uprising they, the citizens, as muslims, 'will go to hell.'
--She said enemy government jeeps, trucks, what not, were loaded up with these flyers and they were being mass circulated throughout Baghdad neighborhoods.
--(I note from the television that the craters after the bombing attack on the civilian market were probably too small to be from the Coalition).
--Opinion: May Ying Welch was still more or less spouting the Ba'athist propaganda line, and there was little 'independence' in her reporting on the ground in Baghdad. That notwithstanding, I believe she may have seen enough and heard enough informal whispers as to what the Iraqi officials are doing and threatening, and seen the fear of the people toward their regime, that even if she began to report negatively on the Saddam regime, that she might not be able to leave Iraq or might meet an unwelcome fate.
It will be interesting to continue to hear this leftist, anti-American 'journalist's stories from the eye of the storm.

Thanks. Very thoughtful post. It's interesting that she knows they picked up the remnants of the bomb so fast.

A very, very useful idiot indeed.

This woman is the epitome, IMHO of 'useful idiot'. She is an 'idiot' for both being there and also being firmly enconsced in the anti-USanti-war crowd, and yet she is of use to the Coalition, possibly. Gotta love it.
Maybe she will next interview some Western and Japanese/Korean 'human shields' chained together out in front of Iraqi military targets in need of 'vey serie' laundry services.

I am curious, if this person is so valuable to our information gathering from the other side, why are we pointing it out here ... I mean in the spirit of "loose lips sink ships" and all.

Thanks MS.
IMHO, this is a 'win/win' for the good guys. Either this sap stays in the Big D and continues to blabber on and we get good information about the enemy from her to act further, or, on the other hand, she gets worried about this aspect of her reporting, folds her cards, leaves, and than seditious Pacifica Radio loses their main propaganda conduit to the Iraqi side and she can no longer provide disinformation from the enemy side on "US atrocities".
'win-win' in my book

one can only hope she'll do an interview with the business end of an RPG, I hear you when you say usefull, but She's killing the Moral and undermining Discipline in the ranks. She'll end up costing us lives. For that she will have to die eventually. A million of her isn't worth one Marine :)

Won't the Baathists be shocked after the war to discover that Ms. Welch is a CIA deep cover agent, using micro transponders to help our air force to target Baath Party headquarters! I hope that the CIA gives her their highest heroism medal for her service in Bagdad.

"She's killing the Moral and undermining Discipline in the ranks." While I'm not arguing that that is not her aim, I don't see any evidence that she's been successful...did you see the injured Americans being interviewed on FNC?! A finer group of likeable averagejoes just doing their duty you'll never find!!
