LANCASTER - A "Support the Troops" rally will take place from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 30, in the area beneath the F/A-18 Hornet at Lancaster Municipal Stadium.
The rally, organized by Assemblywoman Sharon Runner, "will be a short but powerful statement of our Valley's support of our troops in the Middle East," said Larry Grooms, Runner's senior district field representative.
"We need to stand up now and show the world our support for America and our men and women fighting overseas for our freedom and security," Runner said.
Grooms said the rally is "not meant to be long and not meant to be political, just an opportunity for Valley residents to show their true colors and support."
"It's one thing to show a poll that shows we support our troops, it's another thing to see a picture of that support," he added.
Anti-war protests around the country have drawn their share of counter-demonstrations of support of the coalition troops in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
"Assemblywoman Runner feels too many people are 'sitting on the fence.' They've heard from the ones who are against American action in the Middle East," Grooms said. "She feels it is time for this Valley to show where its loyalties are.
"The rally will be centered on the troops and their families."
Rally participants are urged to wear patriotic clothing and bring American flags as well as signs showing support for the troops, Grooms said.
Lancaster Municipal Stadium is at 45116 Valley Central Way, near Avenue I and west of the Antelope Valley Freeway.

A big BUMP from a Lancaster FReeper here. I'll be there with my wife and kids. God bless George and Sharon Runner, Pete Knight and all the other fine Republicans we elect here, in the still conservative Antelope Valley.

Please post an after-action report with photos if possible. We are compiling the photos for a CD Tribute, and keeping a running list of pro-Troop events for media exposure.
Please ping A Navy Vet, Bob J, and diotima. Thank you.

This is great, I will do my best to make it there.
Has anyone seen the band of what appears to be Girl Scouts on the corner of Lancaster Blvd. and Sierra Hwy. rallying for our troops in the afternoon hours?
They are standing under the F-4 Phantom display for the Aerospace Walk of Fame placard.
My assumption is they are Girl Scouts with their adult leaders. They are 9-10 years of age, and very enthusiastic.
It did my heart good to see them waving their flags, and holding up their posters.
This is truly the spirit of America!
