Report: Marines wounded in fighting late Wednesday in Iraq
The Associated Press
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - At least 25 Marines from Camp Lejeune were injured during house-to-house fighting that began Wednesday night in An Nasiriyah, according to a WTVD-TV reporter traveling with the troops. Keith Garvin, reporting live Wednesday evening - about 2 a.m. in Baghdad - said the Marines were wounded over the past few hours in combat that had picked up "quite a bit in the last 10 minutes or so." He reported late Wednesday night that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
Civilians living behind a Marine camp at An Nasiriyah were seen setting up bunkers in the afternoon, and military officials "said they had heard or felt that something bad was going to happen tonight," Garvin reported.
Intelligence reports indicated 2,000 Iraqi troops were advancing on the camp, and a two-hour fight with missiles and artillery ensued, ultimately augmented by aerial bombing, he said.
Garvin said some of the Iraqi fighters were using women as shields and had given guns to children.
"Unfortunately some of the children have been firing at our Marines and our Marines have been forced to defend themselves," he said.
The wounded appeared to be in addition to 15 Lejeune Marines who have been reported injured during the Iraqi conflict. Eleven Lejeune Marines have died, nine in combat in the An Nasiriyah area and two in accidents.

Do you think that those columns of trucks heading south from Baghdad are filled with civilians? I am beginning to wonder, and if so, that would be an even worse PR war than this incident.

I agree, the Marines are cleaning out the basement from Hell. God be with our armed forces as they walk through that den of murderous vipers. Protect yourselves and your comrades above all else.

Then fire back... Hell will come quickly to the person who warped that little murderer.

No wonder the arab world hates us?! They see these cowardly slimey reporters with helmets on, hiding behind the burnt wreckage of a car. They make me sick.

I understand your point but after reading all these Iraqi tactics tonight I feel we have to short-circuit this PR war.
What would happen if we just called a halt to answering the critics, a halt to worrying about the anti-America media portrayal and just got the job done. Catering to the media, with all their anti-America slanted questions, their published rantings and the scurrying around trying to prove America is the good guy - just feeds more of the same scurrying around to prove America is the good guy the next day.
So, we just quit playing the game. We set about winning this war, concentrate on getting the job done to the very best of our ability and let them just "discuss among themselves".
What would be the difference? Without all the coddling shown by pretending their questions are not an effort to further the anti-America rhetoric, what would they do then? If they can't ask the questions as we sit with bated breath trying to find a PC correct method of answering them, we undercut their platform.
Maybe it is time to be a nation of few words speaking softly and carrying a big stick.

It never ceases to amaze me that the old Europe that opposes us, refuses to see that they could very easily be targeted like we have been. Their giving comfort to the enemy today, will not keep them safe in the future. They refuse to see the Israeli, and American position, at their own peril.

there was a title to an article, which became an oft-heard phrase, "WE ARE ALL ISRAELIS NOW".Pat Buchanan wrote that, didn't he?

I have no idea who wrote it. I am not particularly a fan of Buchanan, but the phrase really resonated with me. I knew immediately after September 11th, that the world had changed dramatically. I just wish others could see that truth, today.

I hope our forces find those Al-Jazeera embedded "coorespondents" and send them on their way to meet Allah, early. "Gee, Sarge, I thought they were hostile non-conscripts"...

No matter what I am sure it is hard to pull the trigger at a child. Of course I can hear the libs already on this one .... They are pro-abortion, they probably endorse this practice.

I just talked to a veteran of Gulf war I this aft. He told a few amusing stories and then he turned serious. He said you couldn't believe how evil they were and that they did it all in the name of Allah.

Oh, I agree, we will take them out. It is just so sad to see that because we are honorable in war, we are persecuted even more. If we used our military power for evil, we might be more popular on the globe, these days. But, our resolve to fight with dignity will never waver. And the only reason why is because we are Americans.

I was tempted to enlist during GW1, glad I didn't. I wouldn't have made it to the battle field and would have had the Klintoon as my CIC. I have the utmost respect for anyone that continued to serve under him.
Hehehe... It is hard to fight when you have more respect for your C-Rations than you do for CIC :-)

I think when the french finally don their burqas and lower their red, white, and blue flag to raise up the green flag of islamofascism, they will have a brief taste of why it is not in
every country's nature to just surrender to whomever comes along. Because yes, certainly, they will face the same terrorism of the people they are so happy to cheer on against America now.
Sad that they have fallen to hell, but clearly it's a cultural depravity that is widespread over there. Pity the few sane individuals left...

Seems like an old VC tactic, non?

My husband served in the Navy. He can be a gentle soul, but is very brave and strong. He told me today, that the images on television, and the accounts of the ambush, the bravery of the British and American forces, the dirt, the noise, the hell that the soldiers are living through, made his eyes a little misty.
Their bravery is astonishing. We will be forever in their debt.

Nah... The pro-abortion group supports their own personal right to murder children. They wouldn't appreciate the military infringing on their territory.

The only thing to do...is to keep doing it harder than ever. Yes! At some point the common folk will realize that the ruling elite and their henchman have lost control. Then the frenzy of paybacks will begin!
To: so_real
They are pulling out all the stops because we are doing something very right.I disagree. Not with the fact that we're doing something very right, but with the idea that they're pulling out all the stops because of anything we're doing.
The way I see it, they're not pulling out all the stops at all. They're just doing the only thing they know: committing acts of unspeakable evil. We're fighting soul-less demons who have never, and will never, know any bounds.
Pulling out all the stops in this conflict can only be defined as launching a chemical or biological attack. Everything else is par for the course for these monsters.
As far as going nuclear, and the international political implications... it's that very consideration that could force our hand. Our capitulation to the sensibilites of already hostile nations in fighting this war has, and will continue to, make us unnecessarily vulnerable.
