Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I am still watching the Bagdad camera. I just saw a man at the bottom of the window. It must be a balcony as he was right there in almost full body view of the camera sweeping off the balcony and dirt was just a flying.

"If our bunker busters penetrate 20 feet of concrete at a time, and Sadomy's bunker is 180 feet deep...doesn't that mean we'll NEVER be able to hit him? "
Hmmmm. 180÷20=9. Never =9 bombs? "
Umm, our bunker busters can penetrate AT LEAST 100 feet of concrete or rock. One article I read said that the military LOST one because it penetrated PAST their sensors at 200 feet.
Perhaps someone can find the link to the article on the bunker busters?

When a Roman division was punished by decimation only 10% survived. I beg to differ. According to every history I have ever read on the practice, 10 percent of the unit was killed.
From the American Heritage Dictionary:
Decimate originally referred to the killing of every tenth person, a punishment used in the Roman army for mutinous legions.
From the American Heritage Book of English Usage:
If a cohort or legion mutinied, it was decimated, that is, the soldier standing in the first rank in the first file picked a number from one through ten out of a helmet, and the count off continued from that number. When the count off came to ten (decem in Latin), that soldier was executed, as was every tenth man after him; the other nine tenths got the message.
It would make no sense for a leader to kill 90 percent of his followers, no matter what their "sin."

Yes, I was making the point that progress acheives a goal.
A point lost on many...
To: strela
You are correct. I had bad info. Thanks!

No prob. (I learned about the practice when my ex had problems with her second grade class. Had to talk her out of using it too) ;)

My representative, Paul Ryan was one of the smirkers. You're right, they knew she was off base.

The Scotsman reports that captured Iraqi soldiers have told British interrogators that al-Qaeda terrorists are fighting on the side of Saddam Hussein's forces against allied troops near Basra; according to prisoners, at least a dozen members of bin Laden's network are in the town of Az-Zubayr, where they are coordinating grenade and gun attacks on coalition positions.

Williamsburg bridge closed in NYC, suspicious activity reported, all bridge and tunnels now being checked...
To: osires13
3 men of middle eastern decent arrested with as they tried to leave a suspicious package on the Manhattan Brige, WTF is going on?
To: osires13
Oh, this wouldn't surprise me at all. There is clearly a lot of terrorist activity going on there. What is astonishing is the brutality towards fellow muslims, especially women and children. They have no humanity, and people should understand that if they will murder their own people in cold blood, nothing but exterminating them will keep our own people safe.
