Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I would not be surprised if that 5k pound bomb was used. There was a huge explosion that we all heard over the live feed. It was pretty cool. :)

Isn't it amazing? At the one week point in the war we are on the outskirts of Baghdad with limited casualties, having taken out a lot of Iraqis and the "conventional wisdom" amongst the chattering classes is that we are losing the war!
They were the one's that were expecting a quick victory, and when the war took longer than a few days they blame the administration for raising our expections...when they did that themselves.
Now in the media and in leftistville you hear this talk about how dumb Bush and Rumsfeld are (imagine that...same statement they always use) and how they have lost the war for us...we're not as tough as the Iraqis (they view the Iraqis insane suicidal complex as "toughness"). And Blah Blah Blah.
These are people who don't understand the first thing about warfare, are "religiously" pacifist, and now they're "experts" on what constitutes a good war plan???
How ever will we survive such morons?

The useful idiots can't handle the truth about election 2000. They hate this:
Oh, and those "hick" counties, the "red" counties in Florida with fewer than 10,000 voters? All but one of those 22 Florida counties voted for BUSH and they are ALL Democrat-majority counties with Dem. election personnel...and ALL recounted (as did EVERY county in Florida (just not 2 or 3 times 'til ballots could be manipulated for Gore))- and the HONEST Democrats in the small Florida counties showed mostly single digit changes in the recounts, mostly insignificant. As a friend said, "my Democratic neighbors are southern Democrats with family values and they don't trust Gore."
Speaking of useful idiots:

a 5000 pound bunker buster You can probably tell the weight of the bomb by the duration of the explosion. The one they played on ABC Radio news boomed for at least 5 seconds, maybe 7 or 8. More than a ka-boom. Kind of a boo-oo-oo-oo-m.

They never were expecting an easy victory. Most of these morons were, as usual, saying before the war that it would take months and would kill "untold thousands of Iraqi civilians"...I even think I heard the "American body bags" like in 1991!
Then in the first 3 days they jumped on the "this is easy" and thus got to say on day four and five, "oh no, quagmire".
How these idiots ever got out of college is amazing. I'd love to see their GPA's...probably all down in the 2.0 range!

"Decimate" derived from a disciplinary practice in the Roman legions. 10 percent of the members of a unit that performed badly were put to the sword by their officers, to serve as a lesson to the others.

If our bunker busters penetrate 20 feet of concrete at a time, and Sadomy's bunker is 180 feet deep...doesn't that mean we'll NEVER be able to hit him?
Well with laser guidance it means it takes ten of them. >;)

How would you like to be 180 feet down when that baby goes off plus you have to be able to get out. Maybe he is already waiting to get dug out. The perfect end for that butcher would be to be buried alive in a grave he had people dig for him. Maybe the GI's are just making sure they have tossed the last shovel of dirt on his grave.

How ever will we survive such morons? We won't survive the morons. There is a never-ending supply of them. 100 years ago there were such, 100 years from now there will be such. They are always wrong and always irrelevant. Ignore them and carry on.

I know, it's the #2 definition in my dictionary. Not the #1. Thus, O'Reilly used it correctly.

I bet if you took the script of this war after 7 days and presented to these "enlighted geniuses" in the libearl, left wing press...they'd have said "impossible"!

There is a connection, by golly!
To: strela
Well, uh, actually the meaning has changed a bit over the years. From the dictionary.com web site:
Decimate originally referred to the killing of every tenth person, a punishment used in the Roman army for mutinous legions. Today this meaning is commonly extended to include the killing of any large proportion of a group.
