The official said several hundred special operations forces are in northern Iraq, and the numbers of U.S. personnel north of Baghdad could keep growing. We still have a northern option, the official said. Stay tuned.
WoooHooo!!! Get ready to rock "n" roll!!!

I wonder about not sending our best heavy division in as a unit and instead sending the elements forward as they arrive in theater.

Hmmm, does this mean that the II MEF is now based down here in Florida at Disney World? To quote my favorite tv drill sgt..."Holy Jesus Numbnuts"!!!! Do you think just once, well, maybe once in 365 days, the media could actually CHECK THE FREAKING FACTS!?!?!!?!??? It just supports the information and commentary here that the embeds (some of them, not all) are as moronic as the Paula Zahn!

...P.S. - Hopefully we do not just piddly deploy the 4th. I'm hoping it's at nothing less than Brigade strength, otherwise, it looks desperate.

I was a little confused about that myself.

The 4th ID is considered the most technologically capable division we have. Lots of fancy digital bells and whistles.

They have the next generation tanks and Bradley Fighting vehicles...linked digitally. Supposed to give them a better picture of the battlefield, and allow them to operate at extended ranges (compared to 3ID (M), or 1ID(M)/1AD when they arrive).

Much, Much, Much more heavily armed. More tanks. More armor. More gee-whiz, whammo, wham bam thank you m'aam. 4th ID is should alread have been on the northern suburbs of Baghdad lobbing 155's into the city. But thanks to Turkey and some piss poor planning by the US Army logistics morons, they are way, way, way too late to the party.

They will enter as a unit but the lead elements will be the teams that hook up with the equipment and the on station logistics fellas.
You have your guys that check over the equipment and set up your command structure show up first then the mass of the unit shows up to an organized event instead of showing up and sitting around looking stupid for two days.
The latter is what we called a
ClusterFu@&.

The 4 ID has the M1A2 tank which I hear has better whizbang stuff than the incredibly capable M1A1. By the way we sold/are selling gobs of the M1A2 to Saudi Arabi.

I think I always called the US Congress a CF. But then again, I still do.

It sure would have been nice to have them smashing their way down from Turkey already. They might be on the outskirts north of Baghdad by now. Although Turkey has been a steadfast ally in the past they let us down bigtime in our hour of need.

I agree. And that along with 2MEF will end this nonsense. We've played nice. Now it's time to get ugly.

My guess: when the 4th arrives, they will absorb the Basra duty from the Brits. The Brits will rest and refit and sprint north to join the big party.
Basra will serve as the "welcome mat" for new units, to get them blooded and combat minded before they too head north.

4th ID is probably the best armed division in the Army. They have the M1A2 tanks and all systems are digitally linked. Time to find out if it works as well for real as it does at NTC.

That makes sense. It would bother me considerably if they sent them up an element at a time like replacements.
