There's a whole lot more serious health implications for Iraqi citizens that either surrender to the wrong uniform or get used as shields.

It's interesting that the reporter at the CentCom briefing who asked about DU wasn't from the Arab press.
It was pathetic show by the worlds "journalists".

I would state categorically and unequivocally, that being inside a tank that had one of these things shot through it, it probably is very unhealthy not to go out on a limb or anything...

Seems the best thing to do is get rid of these things...why not get rid of all we have in stock somewhere in Iraq?

Re:
Expected it from our anti-war crowd I've already argued it. Just keep making them say the word "Depleted" over and over and over untill they get the fact that Depleted Uranium shells are just that, Depleted.
Do they cut through old russian tank armor like butter? Hell Yes. Will we stop useing them because that pisses off our military enemy? HELL NO !

The health problems in Basra and other areas of S. Iraq are caused by low-level exposure to Saddam's mustard gas, not DU.
They are similar to the birth defects and other problems reported in the northern Kurdish areas, where DU rounds were never used in Gulf War I. However, Saddam has used mustard gas extensively in both the north and south of the country.

""But Saddam Hussein refused. "Unless that study is done, it is going to be very difficult to try to understand what is behind the large number of people being ill,""
Maybe they inhaled something more volatile and toxic when Saddam put down the rebellion after the first Iraq war.VX? Sarin? Mustard?

Sure... Aerosolized heavy metal of any variety is wicked toxic. But with DU, its the heavy metal, and not the radiation that is the bigger health danger.
