"Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas ...")

The Vichy Chicks demonstrate how to lose $500,000 per word in one sentence. Feh.

Today I read that the Dixie Chicks have announced they're through apologizing.

That's OK. And many are through purchasing their music and attending their concerts. That's all.

Only 42%? We can do better. Everyone roll up your sleeves.

But you have to remember that was with the pro-Iraq peaceniks running out en masse to buy their cds to prop up the numbers, they'll stop buying in a week or so.

A friend once told me ...
Avoid proctologists nicknamed "Digger."
Words to live by.

Which reminds me of an old joke ...

A man went to a proctologist for a rectal exam.
The doctor had him drop his pants and bend over the table.
The doctor then said something to the nurse, who hurriedly left the examination room, only to return in a few moments holding an ice cold bottle of beer.
The doctor gave her a puzzled look, and then said, "No nurse, I said a butt light!"

(I apologize) ;^(

Where did those folks get money?

Oh, probably from the protest organizers. :-)

Today I read that the Dixie Chicks have announced they're through apologizing.

The irony is that they're making the announcement to people who were already through listening to them.

Sadly, those who shun the Dixie Chicks have become exactly what they say they are not: anti-American. By burning CDs and posters and throwing verbal stones at Maines, they are violating her most important right and the foundation of this country - her freedom of speech.

No one is violating her freedom of speech. We are exercising OURS.

The concept of Personal Responsibility is lost on the Liberal Left. Sure, they have a right to express their political views. When they walk out on the stage, they are supposed to entertain. When the CHOOSE to voice a political opinion, they open themselves up to political backlash to those with OPPOSING opinion. How totally IGNORANT to express an opinion that opposes their fans/audience in the U.S. Crybabies !!

Thanks, Registered !! . . .

"Oops, Bill Condon (Chicago) didn't win the Oscar this time round."

But he did win it for "Gods and Monsters" a few years ago. So you were right, in a way.

I still can't find out how the other two Chicks feel about this affair. The longer this goes on with no response from them, the more I'm inclined to believe they feel the same way. I would hope not. However, someone had to start taking the heat of the back-lash for the anti-Bush, anti-USA pricks out there. They drew the short straw and lost. In the overall scheme of thing, they are small potatoes compared to Babs and that strata of "stars" so they're loss is no big deal. I just hope that the "trickle-up" effects start to happen bigtime. Let's continue to back President Bush and the US military. They need it more than ever.

Their tour was pretty much sold out before they started making their comments, I think. So there will be lots and lots of people mad at them who already have tickets to their concerts. Will they not show up or will they boo?

I agree, it will be interesting.

Norah's nice.

Living proof that you can become a successful pop singer with only a half octave range if you're cute and have a pleasant voice. Maybe I should give it a try.

Reply from Lipton Tea

Dear Consumer,

Thank you for your recent note regarding remarks made by Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks. It is important for us to hear from our consumers and listen to their concerns.

As you can imagine, we did not expect a political controversy to arise when Lipton became a sponsor of the Dixie Chicks upcoming "Top of the World" concert tour. In this time of national crisis, we believe it is important for Americans to come together behind the values of freedom, democracy and tolerance that have made the United States of America into the country it is today.

We have every reason to believe the Dixie Chicks sincerely regret the distress Ms. Maine's comment has caused. In a subsequent statement, she said, "As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful. I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect. We are currently in Europe and witnessing a huge anti-American sentiment as a result of the perceived rush to war. While war may remain a viable option, as a mother, I just want to see every possible alternative exhausted before children and American soldiers' lives are lost. I love my country. I am a proud American."

The Dixie Chicks have in the past shown their love of America in very public ways, such as by singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in January, for an audience of 930 million people worldwide. The strong bond they have forged with the public - country and popular music fans alike - is reflected in part by the People's Choice award they won for "Favorite Musical Group," and the fact that their upcoming tour sold out in record time. The band's popularity and success were further recognized when the Recording Academy awarded the Dixie Chicks four Grammy Awards.

While we respect the right to free speech for all Americans, we believe it is important for artists such as the Dixie Chicks to recognize the impact their points of view can have on their fans, especially in these uncertain times.

We value your comments, and equally, the constructive spirit in which they were offered. Thanks again for your time and for allowing us to clarify the situation. We'll be certain to share your thoughts with the Dixie Chicks.

Sincerely,

Linnea Johnson
Director, Consumer Services
