MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Florida, March 26 (AFP) - Add President George W. Bush's official Air Force One airplane to the list of spots where "French" toast has come off the menu due to Franco-US tensions over Iraq.
Reporters flying here Wednesday with Bush aboard the modified Boeing 747 were offered "freedom toast" stuffed with cream cheese and garnished with strawberries for breakfast.
Eateries around the United States -- including the House of Representatives' cafeterias -- have been replacing the "French" in "French fries" and "French toast" with "freedom" to signal anger over Paris' opposition to the war.
I hate to correct you, but in this context it would still properly be a "French Dip" sandwich. The presence of the word DIP immediately after the usage of "FRENCH" makes it completely, er, apropos...
I salute you!
They are unfortunately still on my menu at home....roasted slow with garlic and butter...and...oh yeah...some chives....just a hint...or the tail pom turns bitter.
CC :)
