Washington has announced it is flying another 30,000 troops from the US to the war zone. The announcement came after Saddam Hussein's elite Republican Guard was ordered on the offensive and a column of 1,000 vehicles was sent from Baghdad to confront US troops in central Iraq. The US is flying its high tech 4th Infantry Division and other units to the Gulf - raising fears the American forces have become overextended in their race to the southern approaches to Baghdad

The 4th ID was always scheduled to be part of the invasion. The article makes it seem like the deployment is some desperate move.
What a bunch of ****ing liars.

...raising fears the American forces have become overextended...As opposed to the certainty that the media doesn't know sh*t from shinola!

Never mind the fact that much of the military funding is released in quarterly allotments. The beginning of the 3rd quarter is 5 days away. The timing of this deployment may in part be tied to the cost and availability of funding.

Yeah they came down on orders mid January. They were just waiting on Turkey

Misleading info. The 4th ID has been waiting to go in through Turkey, and we all know how that ended. Their going to the gulf if nothing new.

You are correct my friend, I read about this Monday...
To: Guardian_John
These are simply the troops that were supposed to go to Northern Iraq, plus follow on units whose deployement was announced prior to the commencement of hostilities.

The US is flying its high tech 4th Infantry Division and other units to the Gulf Wasn't the 4th supposed to enter Iraq through Turkey? This account makes it sound like the 4th is being flown in from the States and was previously not expected to see action.

I love this "raising fears" malarkey. The casualty ratio at this point is about 75 ot 100 Iraqis KIA to 1 Coalition solider. The Iraqis have not won one engagement, nor inflicted any significant losses on us of any kind. My lord, this is the army that couldn't even defeat the Persians for 8 years. We will be in Baghdad soon enough. Franks is simply trying to minimize casualties.

Thank you!

"The US is flying its high tech 4th Infantry Division and other units to the Gulf - raising fears the American forces have become overextended" The only fears involved are the Iraqis messing their pants at the imminent arrival of the 4th ID.
