My wife always says that too! Although I never understand what she says, I do nod my head convincingly.

(American Lamb, from American farmers to your table. Never ever offered to the French.)
To: Protagoras
No argument there. So what exactly did you mean? I hope it wasn't that just because I want to rid my party of RINOs that I'm somehow not inclusive.
I'm very inclusive, but I believe that tax and spenders don't belong here. We're supposed to be the party of individual rights and responsibilities. We don't need to be a party that takes from some and gives to others, then refuses to stop. We already have one of those.
To: blackdog
HA! I just emailed her with the URL for this thread. Yep, I would imagine we all do a lot of nodding.
To: ModernDayCato
Well Senator, you can kiss any economic recovery goodbye, then. And with that, your re-election.

Ridding your party of the types you describe should be job one for anyone who belongs to it.
Which is precisely opposite of many here, including management, who support ANY Republican, no matter what.
The big tent is a circus tent, same circus, different clowns.
To: Protagoras
Ah, sarcasm. My apologies for flying off the handle. I do believe that there is room in the tent for all kinds of Republicans.
I also contend that RINOs are not Republicans, so they don't belong under the tent. Anyone who lives in the Northeast (particularly New England) knows what I mean. You could have the RINO hall of fame here in Connecticut: Nancy Johnson, Christopher Shays, Gov. Johnny RINO (Rowland), Chris Larson. The list goes on and on, but at least my RINOs didn't have the testicular fortitude to vote for this amendment, so they're spineless RINOs.
To: Protagoras
Oh, and I forgot to add that at least we lost a Congressional Rep in the last census. It was my Congressman, Maloney, one of the most despicable people I've ever met.
I like to think we sent our seat to Texas.

The national news is not going to tell you this, but this particular vote was a CYA vote for local constituencies and special interests, plus political posturing to get Dems back in the news.
This vote is MEANINGLESS.
The final Senate bill will go to conference with the House bill, and what will emerge - and pass - will be about 90% of what President Bush wanted / asked for.
This is the way things are done in the Senate - you pass something that allows a lot of Senators TV face time - knowing that the real bill that comes out of committee will be dramatically different. Zell didn't vote because he didn't want to be a part of this charade. The RINOs voted the way they did for public consumption back home. The Dems voted the way they did to give Tiny Tommy a little news.
Watch the conference report. What went away today will be back in the final bill.
And it'll probably pass in the dead of night.

Hey be nice, Chuck is not a Rino. (ACU rating in 2002 was 95%, and in 2001 was 92%.) He's just saying that the limits did to Bush's tax plan. He didn't vote the those limits, the rinos did.

Try this criminal genius for a look at my state.
To: Middle Man
This is the norm in Washington.
How many others received some of the farm subsidies?
How many have companies that work illegal iliens?
The list could go on.
I would like to see a TV show that would expose this kind of stuff night after night.

To: Wright is right!
I hope that's true, and I kinda got that feeling. The other thing that made me chuckle is that we have to put everything together in conference committee, and we control both conferences, which is pretty funny.
But don't they have to vote on the final bill again anyway?
To: Sci Fi Guy
Chuckie is okay. I really don't have anything against the guy, except when he was whining about the tax cuts a few months ago.
To: Protagoras
My apologies...don't recognize the guy. What's his deal?
To: ModernDayCato
"But don't they have to vote on the final bill again anyway?" Of course they do. But by then they will either have some excuse for voting for it or be conveniently absent from the floor for the vote or some other ruse. But it's the CYA vote for public consumption and political posturing that's important to them.

I read somewhere that Zell Miller was out of town because his son was taken to the hospital.

Our local newspaper used to have a "watchdog" reporter who did nothing but cover government waste and scandal. No more -- and not for lack of material.
With our government and big business practically merged into one, what network would allow a whistleblower on the air?

To: Teacher317
Since official Washington won't cut spending in our lifetime (or our children's children's children's lifetimes either), we Americans should QUIT SENDING TAX MONEY. As P.J. O'Rourke said, giving money to congressmen is like giving carkeys and liquor to teenage boys.
