Anti-war videos now playing on MTV
Video on MTV

Posted on 03/26/2003 6:56:56 AM PST by Jinjelsnaps

I had the TV on while getting ready to leave for work, when I saw MTV was playing a video by a band named System Of A Down. I don't particularly like them, but this time they caught my eye.

It showed camcorder-sytle "man on the street" video clips of the protests (and the band participating in said protests), complete with all kinds of anti-war progaganda.

I couldn't understand all the lyrics, so I looked them up and now post them here so y'all can be as outraged as I am. The song is called BOOM:

-------------------------------------------------
I'm walking through your streets
Where all your money's earning
Where all your buildings crying
And clueless neckties working
Revolving fake lawn houses
Housing all your fears
Desensitized by T.V.

Overbearing advertising
God of consumers
And all your crooked pictures looking good
Mirrors filtering information through the public eye
Designed for profit sharing
Your neighbor, what a guy

Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom,
Every time you drop a bomb
You kill the god your child has born
Boom, Boom, Boom,

Modern globalization
Coupled with condemnations
Unnecessary death
Matador corporations
Puppeting your frustrations with a blinded flag
Manufacturing consent is the name of the game
The bottom line is money nobody gives a f*ck

4000 hungry children
Leave us per hour from starvation
While billions are spent on bombs
Creating death showers

Boom, Boom, Boom,
Every time you drop a bomb
You kill the god your child has born

Boom, Boom, Boom,
Every time you drop a bomb
You kill the god your child has born

Boom, Boom, Boom,
Every time you drop a bomb
You kill the god your child has born

Why must we kill our own child?

Boom, Boom, Boom,
Every time you drop a bomb
You kill the god your child has born

Boom, Boom, Boom,
Every time you drop a bomb
You kill the god your child has born

Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom
Every time you drop the bomb

-------------------------------------------------

This is what my generation and younger are bombarded with daily. I'm just glad there are some guys like Kid Rock that actually DON'T have their head where the sun don't shine.

Just thought y'all would like to know...

Hey does anyone else think it's a bit hypocritical to decry corporations when their sorry butts are OWNED, published and MARKTED by the RIAA? Also, I like that "the bottom line is money" - good thing a bunch of rich guys are lecturing me about making money...

Modern Art is the very definition of hypocrisy.

The band in question is named "System of a Down".

They pride themselves on their revolutionary leftism and opposition to Christianity (even though all four of the band's members were raised in the Armenian Apostolic Church).

The are kind of like "Rage Against the Machine" - millionaire playboys with enormous record deals and lavish performance contracts who badmouth people who love their country and who do actual work for a living.

The true test of their mettle is to see if they will attack their own record company and their tour sponsors for their "fascist, capitalist, corporate" activities - or if they will keep their mouths shut about them and continue riding the gravy train.

oh, they're so deep aren't they?
i've heard their music-- it's dime-a-dozen rock, and not the least bit revolutionary. i love how they're so concerned about "starving children" all the while probably rolling around in gold doubloons and throwing debaucherous rock parties. they're so sensitive.

So, I take it that because they're against "The System", that instead of a Tour Bus, they all drive around in Hybrid Electric Cars and donate all their money to carities?

They play videos?

BTW - The last really good video I've seen was Van Halen's Poundcake.

The nitwits that watch MTV couldn't find the USA on a map let alone Iraq so I think any anti-war message is lost on this audience--what ever.

Just like with the Iraqi Chicks, I will no longer download all of The Systems music even though it
costs me nothing. That oughta teach 'em.
