The new line from some of the "anti-war" protesters is "we support our troops, that's why we want to bring them home now!" Most of what could be construed as supportive sentiments at the Oscars sounded like this.
Which is why WE need to move on to the NEXT generation...

As I posted elsewhere:

It seems as if EVERYBODY (and his brother) now starting to plan a "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" rally, and we run the risk of getting people worn out by TOO MANY events.
Free Republic can still function as a universal resource for announcing the dates and locations for all such FUTURE rallies (all over the USA) - and as a place to document all PAST rallies, with reports and pictures...
...but we need to lead by example, IMHO - and move beyond simply countering the "anti-war" rallies with "pro-USA" rallies.
We now need to start promoting more TANGIBLE ways to "support our troops."
And, rather than "re-invent the wheel" - I propose that we "adopt" an organization that is ALREADY DOING what we need to do next, the USO.
I propose that each local chapter ADD to their existing "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" activities some way to plug into their local (pre-existing) USO organization.
Free Republic can be the engine that drives the USO into a MAJOR source of DOMESTIC support for our men and women in the armed forces (in addition to doing their traditional USO tours to military bases overseas) - among other things:
1 - co-ordinating the sending of Girl Scout cookies, Valentines, and other SEASONAL gifts/packages/letters

2 - integrating the pre-existing local USO-sponsored "USO Canteen" cybercafes with OUR FR-sponsored "USO Canteen FReeper Style" - with e-mails/images/jokes on daily threads.

3 - holding fundraisers in cities all across the USA - with MAJOR Hollywood talent, like Steve Martin, Wayne Newton and Charlie Daniels - who have ALREADY been active with the USO - since Desert Storm.

Thanks for the ping. Medved and you couldn't be more correct. There's a dividing line between the two types of people. Even worse, the Hollyweirdos live in their own bubble worlds as well as have short attention spans.

Since it didn't get many reads before going to chat last night, this is a good place to repost the link.. disgust over Polanski's win.

Good ideas, RonDog.

Apparently, Michael Moore was on Aaron Brown last night and he said that he thought his words at the Oscars would bring the troops home sooner.

Nicole Kidman said "even in war, art goes on," or some such.

Art means selling pictures of her body in various stages of undress to adolescents (the number one demographic for Hollywood.)

p.s. Truth in advertising alert - I admit, although hardly an adolescent, I thought she looked great in that body suit in "Eyes Wide Shut." Hey Nicole, keep the art coming! It beats the hell out of your politics.

What I loved about Nicole last week: she spent a week valiantly denying rumors that she wouldn't be in attendance at the Oscars (because she couldn't let her fans down, even in these terribly uncertain times. She will soldier on!), then, the morning after, talked about how guilty she felt -- all dressed up, dripping in luxury. Oh maybe I shouldn't have come! CG is right about their wanting everything both ways. Any reasonable person knows you can't burn the candle at both ends but only so long.

Sounds like she barely escaped being overcome by an attack of the vapors. What a trooper!

Nice to meet another Steve Martin fan. Thanks for the info:

Operation Desert Storm saw the USO once again follow our troops to set up shows in the desert with the indomitable Bob Hope, along with Steve Martin, Dolly Parton, Jay Leno, and many other popular entertainers.
