U.S. reports Iraqis executed some POWs
Officials base allegations on intercepted conversations
By Eric Schmitt, New York Times
and David E. Sanger

WASHINGTON -- Some of the Army mechanics captured Sunday after they took a wrong turn in the Iraqi town of Nasiriya were executed by their captors, probably in front of townspeople in the area, American officials charged on Tuesday night.

It is unclear how many of the seven soldiers killed were executed, rather than slain in a skirmish, as the Iraqis contend. Five other American soldiers were taken prisoner.

Officials based their allegations on accounts that American officials apparently received from intercepted conversations in the area near the Euphrates River. Officials said that many details surrounding the deaths of the soldiers were still unclear.

The accusations regarding the execution of American soldiers came days after a videotape of the Army prisoners and the dead soldiers was broadcast on Al-Jazeera, the Arab satellite television network. The tape showed images of at least four bodies; some of the dead appeared to have bullet wounds to the head.

"When the full story comes out, people will be outraged," said one senior military official.

Did the murder's and captures results from ABC giving out positional information?

ABC, Koppel and especially Peter Jennings are always eager to defend Islamic terrorists,
give away factoids of US weapons' limitations even during battle
and always the critical position of US forces to their enemies anytime.

HEY, PETER JENNINGS, WHAT THE HE&& DID YOU SAY
HOW MANY AMERICAN PATRIOTS HAVE YOU HAD MURDERED TODAY?

Lot of keywords there.

Have our forces begin wearing a distinctive insignia that cannot be duplicated inside a cut off enemy city.

What would that be that could be handed out quickly to our troops, announced with a leaflet campaign, and impossible to duplicate in a besieged city?

In GW-I the only thing different on our uniforms was and american flag that was added on the opposite shoulder of your unit patch.

All unit insignia can be bought by anyone, anywhere at any time. The Arabs have tons of our BDUs and desert camo. The Iraqis have hundreds of our vehicles (mostly APCs). I'm hoping that they don't too many bright ideas about using this stuff against us. I'm guessing they may though.

Every Iraqi member of the unit (if it can be determined) that killed our POWs should be executed as war criminals "to encourage the others" as the French used to say.

If the Iraqi "journalists" who interrogated our POWs on TV can be identified, they should be executed as war criminals.

To ordinary civilians, we should be gracious and helpful, to Baathists and members of units that have commited war crimes, we should be ruthless and exterminate them.

They could duplicate flags or insignia, I imagine. To do so inside the cities at this point would be difficult but not impossible. There would also be seamstresses that would know the truth. They'd have to be quarantined, somehow.

Something difficult to duplicate might be NVG mounts on the helmets. Every US soldier would have one....very few of the enemy soldiers would.

Yes, these slime who pose as journalists, a worthy profession, should get a taste of their own degrading medicine.

Tape it (their executions), then send it to Al Jazeerda (sp) for network viewing since they like this kind of thing.

Let's see...

The Iraqi's put on American and British uniforms...accept the surrender of their OWN people...then execute them.

While trying to surrender....OUR own troops are executed.

Time to take off the gloves......

Don't know how practical that idea is at this point but certainly something to give some consideration to.

I don't want to get graphic on here and stuff, but when I saw that video on Sunday morning US time (which I saw and recorded from Iraqi TV via Lebanon Broadcasting Corp which I get) I looked the death wounds shown on TV. At least two, maybe three of these murdered heroes in al Nasiriyeh, were CLEARY shot in the head at such a point that they were not wearing their helmuts. These were indeed barbaric executions; but this shows what animals we are dealing with on the battlefield, so it is little surprise, although shocking. These shots were done at close range. Most Americans not seen this video. It is pretty bad.

But I know the word is spreading on the ground, and now the Enemy has a lot of pissed off Marines on their hands. There are a lot of us pissed off far away from the battle, too.
