They were maintenence troops not frontline grunts.
They do not have the firepower or the numbers to fight off more than a token force. (Comparable size force.)
Maintenence troops are usually lightly armed and unarmored.
They don't hav eth eoption of hunkering down inside a tank or APC, they usually have tank recovery vehicles (unarmored) 5ton trucks, Dueces, Humvees, or modified amphib vehicles that also are less suited for force on force fighting. It comes down to this: Maintenence troops are supposed to be to the rear where it's 'safe' where the enemy isn't supposed to be.

Every Iraqi member of the unit (if it can be determined) that killed our POWs should be executed as war criminals "to encourage the others" as the French used to say. They'd better do it before Amnesty International can rush in to defend them. Give it a week and the murderers will be made an international cause celeb complete with profiles of each by the BBC.

FReepers and FNC viewers have known for days that they were executed!!! Why is the NYT and other media treating this like breaking news?

I believe when you're a bunch of engineers who took a wrong turn and find yourself overwhelmed with the enemy "surrendering" is a viable option. I'll not criticize them for it.

I'd like confirmation, not specualtion, that those were Marines. I believe they're talking about soldiers from the 507th.

Fight till you die with these people.

Yes, it is graphic. But thank you for giving this information to us.
Please keep up the good work! God bless our troops, and you and others doing this work for us.

One might suspect Couric and Jennings would consider the punishment appropriate for disobeying the U.N.
